ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“…a wonderfully evocative score” (Australian Stage)

“Renowned composer, performer and writer Megan Shorey has created a different kind of musical in 'Handle With Care'… one that is exquisite.” (Scene Magazine)

Written/Composed by award winning composer, Megan Shorey, Handle with Care does not suggest to prove a point or to right any wrongs, but rather to pose some questions that may resonate in you, our listener. If you love a woman: mother, sister, daughter, friend or lover, you will have shared at least some of this journey with her. Because although we may confuse you, or challenge the world with everything we both desire and deserve, we still just want to be loved and handled with care.

The Four Mini-Musicals:

3 KILOS
Whether you’re 6 ft tall and only weighing in at a measly 50 kilos, or you’re shorter than the average family pet and struggling to keep your weight in double digits, there is not a woman on this planet who hasn’t yearned for the loss of those last magical 3 kilos.

GIRLFRIEND
It’s the eve of Ally’s wedding, and the three friends are reminiscing their misspent youth over a few too many glasses of champagne. While excited for the future and the romance of Ally’s impending wedding, Bec is struggling to keep her own failing relationship alive at all. Sam however, would be happy to find herself in ANY kind of relationship. Good, bad or downright ugly.

THE SILK POWERSUIT
The corporate world has a place for young successful women, and that will always be one step behind her closest male rival.
Vying for promotion to partner along side her male counterpart, Beth’s journey through the stereotypes, misrepresentation and blatant sexism will be a reminder of not only how far we’ve come, but of the painfully long road still ahead.

IN MY ARMS
The stage is split. Two identical baby’s rooms. There is a woman standing in the centre of each room. In one, a woman holds a young baby. Sadly, in the other, the woman holds nothing in her arms.
A touch of ‘sliding doors’ allows us to see both the joys and pains of motherhood in this poignant piece. Whether by choice or by force, sometimes we just have to get by with what’s in our arms.
