ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This is my second album, which is just me playing traditional acoustic blues on my dad's guitar. I dedicated this collection of songs to my father, who I never really got to know since he died when I was a year old. Award-winning producer/engineer Chris Biondo (Biondo Music), known for his work with the late Eva Cassidy, engineered this album. It was an amazing experience to work with him on this special project. --Melanie

I can't say enough about this wonderful album.
Melanie Mason interpreted some classic blues songs on it--all by her lonesome with an intricately-picked acoustic guitar and in elegant voice. The result? She manages to make the tried and true sound brand-new and unique; an amazing feat. Two original songs blend in so well, you'd think they were crafted back in the day by Johnson, Lipscomb, or Hurt. This is only Mason's second record. Her first, with her band, was great. This one's a huge leap forward.

An excellent and thoroughly enjoyable recording
I'm really glad that I bought this CD. It's a solo album with excellent vocals and thumbed bass & finger picked chords/melody guitar accompanyment in the original Mississippi Delta bluesman style. Production is first rate. Most of the album consists of familiar songs by well known Delta blues artists of the 1920s, but there are two originals by Ms. Mason that fit in seamlessly and are equally enjoyable. This is a keeper.

Tremendous talent
This CD showcases Melanie Mason's talent as an accoustic blues singer and guitarist. This is a wonderful talent equal to Rory Block's last CD.

A Great New Country Blues CD
Melanie Mason's unique approach to the blues has truly stirred new life into these great country blues classics along with more of her own very vocally passionate and lyrically expressive works and her always impressive guitar ability. Some folks don't translate easily from electric to acoustic or visa versa but Melanie passes the test and then some. I don't think I'll ever get tired of listening to her first CD and I have to say that now, the seventh time through I'm feeling the same way about this new one. I feel very fortunate to be able to see her, and her band perform regularly and I highly recommend seeing her live too if you get the chance.

Very good country blues with excellent recording quality
This cd has a nice mix of covers of older acoustic country blues tunes with a couple very good originals mixed in. The sound/recording quality is excellent, as the fingerwork clearly shines through. The album also illustrates the depth of Melanie's talent and her versatility, as her first album, "Bendin' The Blues," featured electric guitar and only one acoustic/country blues tune. If you like country blues you will enjoy this album by an artist clearly on the rise.

If you love traditional blues, you'll love this CD.
I've listened to Mason's new CD several times and want to tell everyone how wonderful it is. Her smooth and light guitar work, together with her wonderful voice brings traditional blues to a new place. This acoustic CD is an exciting and different approach from her first CD. If you love traditional blues, you will love this CD!
