Album Notes
About the Album:

As a budding composer in the 1990’s, I dreamed of my music one day touching people all over the world. I grew up in a tiny village in northern Canada without even one traffic light, let alone a concert hall -- an unlikely setting for the birthplace of such ambitions! But dream I did. I composed and performed one of my first pieces, “Beginnings,” for my high school graduation; a ceremony with the theme of “The Power of a Dream.” That pivotal moment on the afternoon of June 14, 1997 truly was the beginning of a journey that has taken me from that tiny village to the largest city in Canada. It seems wonderfully unbelievable that at the time of writing these thoughts, this will be my third solo album and my fifth total (not to mention the many contributions to the projects of my peers, special recordings that never went public, and more). Not only have I travelled North America wide sharing my music with thousands in person, but thanks to the dawn of the digital age, my music truly has reached every corner of the world -- from England, to the Middle East, to Australia, to Hong Kong. It would seem that I am indeed living the dream that started in such a humble place. The journey has not been without its detours, bumps, storms and delays, but through it all, the destination has always remained in my vision. Every song on this album is a reflection of this very personal odyssey. From the youthful hope of “Beginnings,” to the wistful tones of “Away” and “Last Chance,” to the more mature, fulfilled love of “Romanza,” each song is a glimpse into the emotions I have faced, and we all face, as we walk the path of life towards our dreams.

About Melissa and her music:

From her early childhood, Melissa demonstrated a gift for music, including a keen musical ear (being able to reproduce melodies she heard at an early age). She began playing the piano at age five and composing her own simple songs not long after. Melissa won first prize in several music festivals she entered as a child in British Columbia. She continued her musical studies with the Royal Conservatory of Music, later completing a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory, History and Composition from the University of Lethbridge -- graduating with Great Distinction in 2002.

During the final year of her Bachelor of Arts degree, Melissa was actively preparing a portfolio for graduate studies in academic music at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. However, she abandoned this pursuit after what can only be described as a supernatural moment of hearing from God. She heard Him clearly direct that she was not to pursue her doctorate, but that she was to wait on Him for the tasks he would have ahead for her. She felt that she was to use her music to glorify Him, and to bring healing to others. Melissa has spent the last fourteen years exploring the meaning of this message, developing her gifts and trying to be as obedient as possible to the call God has placed upon her life.

Melissa's main musical interests include spontaneous improvisation, world music, singing the Scriptures, and music therapy. Her music has most often been described as calming, soothing, peaceful, and inspiring. Listeners might hear in her compositions the influences of artists such as Enya, Yanni, Jim Brickman, Josh Groban, Michael Card, Loreena McKennitt, Lianna Klassen, David Lanz, Vangelis, The Fisherfolk, Barry and Batya Segal, Marty Goetz, John Williams, and James Horner.

In her free time, outside of composing, Melissa enjoys writing poetry and allegorical prose, drawing and painting, filmmaking, spending time with loved ones, and walking outside amidst God's incredible creation.

Melissa is married to pop-rock violinist and songwriter Dan David. The couple resides in the Toronto, Canada area with their young daughter. Their second child is expected in September 2015.
