ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A rock-blues trio made up of vocalist/pianist Mary Ellen Klein, drummer/saxophonist Clay Golden, and guitarist/bassist Nelson Icenhower, Melon And The Mayhem released their debut EP in June 2012. The group formed when Golden and Icenhower saw Klein playing at an acoustic singer/songwriter night in Nashville and approached her about starting a band. Their debut EP, Lights On, was produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, The Ettes) at The Bomb Shelter in East Nashville, where they recorded live to tape in order to get a true analog-style vintage sound. Klein's bluesy vocal style, often described as Ella Fitzgerald meets Janis Joplin, and witty lyrical style flow together naturally before falling smoothly over Golden's thundering drum foundation and peppered with the lightening of Icenhower's 60's-inspired electric guitar riffs. To experience a live performance by Melon And The Mayhem is to experience lightening, thunder and sunshine all at once.

About Lights On: In "A.D.D. Song," the trio delivers unapologetic rock and roll, and on the deeply soulful "Never," they bare their hearts. "Alone Together" features a sultry saxophone solo as it tells a seductive story, and "Fireworks," the single, leans toward psychedelic rock. The album shows diversity and an unusual range of talent. For this promising young band, the the lights are on and the future looks bright.
