My Soundtrack to The Summer Of 2008
I've been playing this CD non-stop at my house. My 14 year old son said "God! This guy! Is every song about booze and cigarettes and women?"

I said, "Yeah. Ain't it great?"

I have about a million questions for Mel, because I think this album is consistently so good, especially for a home-grown album.
The songs go together so well. The sequence of how one song moves on to the next without breaking the feel of the album creates a certain mood.

It's freakin' brilliant... that's all I can say.

Good story lines make great songs. I love a song I can understand. - a song that tells a story.

John Lennon once said something about saying what you want to say in simple terms, make it rhyme, and put a back-beat to it.
That's what Mel has done here.

Add the interesting sounds of Ukulele and slide guitar with upright bass and subtle tasty percussion. That sound stands apart from most bands. It's simply different and refreshing to hear.
Then add Melvern's one-of-a-kind voice, (he can sing really highsometimes) those good harmonies and quirky song ideas...How could I NOT like this?

I'm telling ya folks, get it, listen to it, and watch how the songs grow on you each time you listen to them.

Great stuff!
Quirky, fun and varied. Great CD at twice the price!

Call me a loser, then!
Melvern is Ray Davies with an uke. Think mid-sixties Kinks, the humor of "Sunny Afternoon" or even latter songs like "Holiday" along side the honest sadness of "Waterloo Sunset" and you're not far off from Melvern Taylor's music.

It is refreshing to hear someone who can make you laugh and make you blue, given that so many today are one-dimensional in sound and lyrical content.

Listen to this a few times, you'll be singing the songs all day. Oh, and while you're at it, get Melvern's excellent "Fabuloso".

Not a Loser Among Them
Every song on this album is fabulous. Melvern is a terrific songwriter, uke player and singer. And the Meltones are spot-on, especially Dave Livingston's complementary guitar. This is great stuff.

Cheerfully Seedy!
Great music, wonderful lyrics! Who knew the uke could be so cool? This is my second album from these guys, and I hope to see more of them. Not a \"skip over\" song in the bunch. Nice job, fellas!

Always, always a great song!
Melvern Taylor has great talent and an easy friendly kind of voice that makes you relaxed and happy. The tongue in cheek humor and the spot-on realism of the situations of the song hit home. Sometimes literally, since I lived on Salisbury Beach. :) Great album - pick up the rest while you\'re at it!

Great Soundtrack
You have to love it.. Man theses guys are GOOD. my kind of music. Booze, Women, songs you can play over and over again. and you have to love the Ukulele. and thay sound just as good in person, The wife and went to see them for the first time last night, had a great time..
can't wait to see you guys again,

Love Songs For Losers
I absolutely loved this Melvern Taylor's latest CD. It's his best one ever to me. I don't think that there is a song on this CD that I didn't like. Keep up the good work Melvern and the gang.

Love Songs for Losers
I thought the last album "Fabuloso" was, well, fabuloso. This new one is equally great, it has 2-3 songs I've heard the band do live as well as a bunch of new ones. All of the songs are great; many sound like standards, but also uniquely Meltonian. No one has a voice quite like Melvern's. This band deserves a much wider audience. Buy this album!!
