ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Mercedes Mill grew up singing in choirs and musicals, and the art of songwriting called to her from an early age. Her music flows from folk, blues, country, rock, and jazz, reflecting the many traditions that inspire her.

Her songs have earned recognition for their creative arrangements, lyrical originality, and powerful melodies and harmonies. Original song “5 Seconds Flat” appears in the 2018 short film, “The Phages.” About her solo album, “Incantation at the Golden Hour,” Alice Stephens wrote, “With songs that haunt and a voice that uplifts, Mercedes Mill brings new truth to age-old stories of love, yearning, heartbreak, and hope.”

Mercedes is the lead singer for The Glimpses, a duo with multi-instrumentalist Matthew Leonard rooted in folk, country blues, Memphis soul and rock ‘n’ roll. In a music review, DivaShane wrote, “The vocals and the music both hold their own bits of goodness so the combination is kinda like chocolate and peanut butter. [Mercedes] has a voice that is a once in a generation thing.” The Glimpses have toured extensively, from D.C. to Nashville, L.A., New York City, and Montreal. Their performances are dynamic and engaging, drawing comparisons to the legendary collaborations of Richard & Linda Thompson, Alison Krauss & Robert Plant, and The Civil Wars.
