Album Notes
Great blues performed with attitude is what Australian band MERCY-MERCY is all about.

Jim Lieschke, Neil Jeffs and John De Laurence are no strangers to the blues or each other having played together for about 10years in Northern New South Wales blues outfit The Blues Vein. For the following 5 years they had been exploring other genres and came back together in this project to what inspired them in the first place – the Blues. Lindy Lou Smith, all the way from Adelaide in South Australia, sang in a number of bands in South Australia including blues outfits, before heading for Byron Bay 4 years ago where she has now settled and has found her musical home in MERCY-MERCY.

MERCY-MERCY have vigorously worked to compile a list of standards and contemporary Blues tunes punctuated with their own original songs and have created a tough, sensitive and dynamic sound that is visceral in its intent and feel. With an EP release recorded at the famed Rockinghorse Studios with Anthony Lycenko and Nicholas Wilson and Mastered by Paul Fox at Indie Masters, Melbourne Australia out now, MERCY-MERCY are now taking their music to the next level and are keen to take their audiences with them.

Guitarist Neil Jeffs plays with passion and reverence. There is no doubting his feeling when he lets rip nor the emotion that drips from his strings like warm honey. Jim Lieschke has every feel imaginable in those hands of his and his drumming technique is filled with power and subtlety. John De Laurence has a “thunder thumb” according to Jimbo and they have been the heart beat of a number of bands together over the past two decades. They have developed an intuitive feel for each other’s playing and give the band a rock solid bed to drive off. Lindy Lou Smith, a music academy trained singer, is passionate about the blues and projects both warmth and power into her music.

The tracks that make up the debut, self-titled release MERCY-MERCY were chosen to reflect some of the diversity in the MERCY-MERCY sound. At their core is a strong blues influence and some of the tunes like Sacred Ground and Miss You, are unmistakably blues. There is a defiance in Sacred Ground which is essentially about growing older and acknowledging a debt to the role of blues music in a life. Miss You is about the redemption possible within a relationship when there is a willingness to turn towards rather than continue to turn away from the person we love.

The first track on the EP, It's Over, is more driven rock and is an allegory for human relationship with the planet. Boardwax and Acetone on the other hand is meant to be tongue in cheek, summer fun around the surf culture with a solid tilt at good old fashioned Aussie pub rock.

Have Mercy, the third track on the EP is a bit of soul, a bit of funk, a bit of blues with a jumpy bass line contrasting with a rock guitar tone meant to refer to the internal disconnect that emerges when a relationship goes sour.

MERCY - MERCY is foot stomping, gut thumping Blues with the ability to be tender, dynamic and soulful. We hope you enjoy this sample of MERCY-MERCY.
