ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Meridians perform commissioned and arranged works in live and unedited performances. The first concert, at Washington DC's Library of Congress begins with Stravinsky fanfares and a transparent 5-part madrigal from Gesualdo's book six. David Sanford's "Corpus" and Elliott Sharp's "Beyond the Curve" were both commissioned by the MAE with support from Chamber Music America, and were recorded on the MAE's 8th disc entitled "Brink". The DVD then looks back to 1997, a time when the group was touring extensively, prior to the recording of its 7th CD entitled "Ear Mind I". Su Lian Tan's "Moo Shu Rap Wrap" was a staple of the MAE repertoire, blending ethnic, popular, and experimental music all in one ten-minute piece. Works by group members Daniel Grabois and Jon Nelson were never recored commercially - these are the premiere recordings of those pieces. Ben Herrington's creative look at "Some Skunk Funk", a jazz/funk standard, clearly illustrates the Meridians' interest in everything both adventurous and humorous.
