ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
If Paul Simon and D'Angelo's rhythm section went on a transcendental meditation retreat together in the Sonoran Desert, the result might be something like Mesquite. Formed in late 2017 through an accidental collision of pop-sensible jazz musicians, a sound emerged characterized by intricate rhythmic geometry balanced by simple, entrancing melodies. Drawing further from psychedelia, hip-hop, and 70's Nigerian Highlife, the result is equal parts lucid reverie and visceral groove.

Mesquite's sonic signature is rooted in their experiences in Tucson, Arizona, and conveys a love for their mystical desert homeland. Their haiku-like songs reflect the arid beauty of the region and lyrically explore its enchanting stillness. After opening for Grammy Award-winning soul artist Fantastic Negrito in 2018, Mesquite have kept up a steady schedule of concerts culminating in the completion of their first studio album and several tours.
