Album Notes
It was in Santa Barbara California in 1977, that I found myself mesmerized by the local jazz and Latin musicians performing in small music clubs around town. Eventually they began to ask me to sit in. This playing experience was very different from the 20,000 and 50,000 seat arenas, I had performed in for most of my career.

This is when I began to find my inspiration to want to play music again. Over the next three years I began to learn new rhythms, chords and melodic scales that opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities.

I found these musicians to be, not only extraordinary players but also, wonderful people who I built new friendships with over time. They were unspoiled by the music business I had come to love and question all about the same time. They were like an Oasis.

"Oasis" was a wonderful part of my life’s musical journey. Touring and performing with the same musicians who helped to create the album, was especially pleasing. It is one of my favorite musical experiences thus far as a performing and recording artist.

When the dust finally settled, the alum didn't sell millions but "Oasis" had done well and served a very important passage in my life. It was well received by critics, writers and the audiences I performed the album in front of, my fans. The very people the album was intended for in the first place.

I hope there are many of you had the opportunity to see these musicians perform in concert. If not, this album will give you a small glimpse into those early beginnings. I hope you will enjoy listening to it as mush as I enjoyed creating it.

That Voice
Anywhere between Al Jarreau and Dr.John, really good Voice and music too. I love it.

I had been a big fan of Loggins and Messina and was curious what was going to happen to their sound once they went their separate ways. I bought both of their 1st solo albums post L & M and while Loggins did a pretty credible job with his, he used some studio musicians and it just didn't seem true to him. Oasis on the other hand was a revelation. Jim had gotten together with a bunch of friends and musicians who really seemed to bring the full emotional content of Jim's songs to fruition and were blazing hot on their instruments as well. His sound was 180 degrees from the L & M sound and one could tell he really felt like stretching his musical muscles. His back up band played so tastefully in support of his songs that it was easy to tell how invested they were in helping him bring his aural vision to life, I bought this when it 1st came out and it, sadly, disappeared way too quickly from the scene and I have been looking to get this on CD for many years and I am so glad to have it again. It is one of those rare CDs that is just as good and relevant today as when it 1st came out 27 years ago. Not too many musicians or albums can that be said for nowadays.

Any Loggins & Messina fan would like this CD. You get a different side of Jimmy Messina's talent. More jazzy sound that shows his writing skills. Had this on vinyl many years ago & now it's on CD, that sounds great...

The thoughts put into these songs were well rehursed and I find the changes in progression nice

Sweet Old Latin Rock !
Been looking for many years for this album and so glad is has been re-issued with this CD.

I concur with the above reviewers and would like to add that this issue was re-mastered, the sound is fresh and absolutely delightful.

Sadly, they don't make music like this anymore.. so this is a real gem to add to your collection.

Enjoy with a chilled pina colada!

The best of any of the music put out by Jim Messina and it was his first Solo LP release since parting with Kenny Loggins, if you ever want to here a classic LP buy this release of it this Oasis release on CD I know you won't be dissapointed! This is before Steely Dan came on the sceen to push this same sound that we grew to love.

I first heard the track 'Love is here' in 1980 when I was 18 and into jazz funk. It may not have sold many albums, but it was hugely popular in Cape Town. The two tracks 'Seeing you (for the first time)' and 'Do you want to dance' were equally popular and to this day Jimmy' s funky sounds on 'Oasis' take me back to my younger care-free days. I must confess that I did not know of Jim's earlier music and years after looking him up I was quite stunned to see that he also made country rock music. This is an album that will remain with me forever!
