Metal Force is a studio-only project band comprised of guitarists Darren Raffel (Affliction) and Tom Vitacco (Worwyk/Affliction) who have teamed up with vocalist Jason Russo (Herod/Darkling/Worwyk/Cheap Evil) to create a new album entitled Metal Rebirth.

A little background on the project: Darren and Tom were both in Affliction and released two albums with some friends who handled the vocals. They started to write some new songs back in 2006 but found the songs were not as heavy and dark as the previous Affliction material so they decided to form Metal Force as a side project for these more melodic tunes. Tom was still working on Worwyk material at the time and was corresponding with a possible singer who did some demo tracks but he couldn't commit the time to do the full album so they started to look for another singer. Tom was already working with Jason on Worwyk's Malignant album and he asked Jason if he would take over and handle all the vocals for the Metal Force project once Malignant was complete. Jason agreed to do it and he recorded all eight songs as well as a bonus track.

We hope you enjoy the music and thanks for listening. Keep it metal \m/

Metal Rebirth
Bloody good songs on this album - highly recommend to all metal and hard rockers out there. Killer chops on the guitars keep the fury going. The vocals have just the right amount of anger and attitude without overdoing it... good high notes have just the right feel to kick it off with "metal Rebirth". This album holds it own ground with a menance and energy that makes other metal wannabes drool with envy... hell yeah!

Gotta love the high pitched scream!
An album that starts with a high scream and heavy loaded guitars… Without it my life wouldn’t have any sense! I know, this sounds depressing but in my professional life I’m living dark times. Anyway, don’t you get a kick out from a high pitched scream? I do and to me it’s always a sign to pay double attention to what I am listening to. I know, it’s so damn ‘Eighties’ but I am still addicted to it!

Metal Force is a band from Chicago / USA and believe me or not, only a few tunes were necessary to discover Metal Force is a pure US Metal band. Old Metal Church, old Armored Saint and tons of other bands can be mentioned when we talk about Metal Force. This album breathes everything Eighties Metal is all about and although nothing innovating can be found on this disc I’ve enjoyed “Metal Rebirth” very much. Clichés enough on this one but all played with pride and glory! Thankfully the clichés are musical wise and the band picked up ideas that makes this kind of music so irresistible. “Chronicles Of Death” for example is an outstanding song that reminds me to those Godlike semi-ballads Metal Church ever wrote. Metal Force varied this track on the right way so it became a mind blowing pure US Power Metal track. This is METAL! Vocals, rhythms, riffs, solos…. Awesome job guys!

I hope you don’t have the idea that Metal Force isn’t able to deliver surprises. Oh yes, this band is strong enough to do so. The ingredients are known but listen to “Straight To The Gates” and you’ll discover surprising – yet mind blowing – vocal performances by Jason Russo. His high screams on the one side, evil low voices on the other are fantastic. This is, by the way, the best song on this release. This track contains thrashy riffs, speeds up the rhythms and lifts the band up to a higher level! The epic “Garden Of Stone” surprises me again, convinces me that this band is amazingly strong. The used ingredients of this menu are so well cooked that I really love the taste of it!

I discovered this band before on the Internet and they pleased me a lot. Watching the band’s pictures in the booklet it seems normal these guys play this kind of music because I’m quite sure they are children of the Eighties Metal movement. This is a very good release that Heavy and Power Metal fans ‘pur sang’ really should check out.

My Points: 85 / 100 (Review by Officer Nice)

Outstanding traditional metal!
Metal Force is a US heavy metal project that is not intended to be anything more than a studio project. This is really too bad because Metal Rebirth is an excellent heavy metal album, so good in fact, I am considering naming it my top album of 2010 as I write this review. The individuals involved in this studio project are the kind of metal folks you want to get behind. They love heavy metal music and love performing and writing it. They clearly aren't very concerned with making it big. Guitarist and bass player Tom Vitacco has had his 1 man heavy metal band Worwyk going since 1988! The last 2 albums he has added a singer, but I will mention more about this in a minute. Tom also has a very obscure side project not even on RYM in a band called Affliction. He is a co-member with guitarist and bass player Darren Raffel. In 2006 Tom and Darren apparently started writing some material that was not as heavy and dark as the material performed by Affliction. Thus the idea for Metal Force as a side project for these melodic heavy metal songs was born. After being unable to find a suitable vocalist to commit to recording Metal Rebirth, the current vocalist for Worwyk, Jason Russo committed to Metal Force. What a fine choice because Jason is awesome, better than he was on the last Worwyk album.

So what kind of music does Metal Force play? I would describe it as melodic traditional heavy metal with plenty of Maiden, some Priest and perhaps some Iced Earth influence amongst others. In other words, it remains very metal despite these melodic touches. Plenty of good guitar and bass work and certainly some haunting melodic sections can be found to. Six out of the 8 tracks definitely have a big time melodic vibe with perhaps a tad of power metal influence on occasion. The other 2 tracks are primarily mid paced chugga chugga heavy metal style with some melodic twists on occasion. The thing that makes these 2 songs, hell it makes all the songs better, are the vocals of Jason. He certainly has a set of pipes on him. While his voice soars much of the time, Jason also has an evil voice that compliments this soaring voice and gives the album a lot of variety vocally. I love Jason and definitely think perhaps he has found the right band for his vocals. Jason is not perfect all the time (he is pretty close, though), but his great voice and not overly mixed production of the album make it much easier to overlook these few flaws.

I urge folks who like metal with melodies and traditional heavy metal folks to have a listen to Metal Rebirth and support these individuals. You won't be disappointed.
