Album Notes
“Music has never been just a thing I do. It’s a feeling — it defines me, and without it I would be lost. My life’s poignant and recurring theme is music. Music is me, is life, is love…”

Born in Pretoria, South Africa, Mia Verdoorn’s love, as stated above, and obvious gifts for music started early on, and began to take a professional turn at the age of 11. Possessing talent and poise beyond her years, it did not take long for Mia to begin to draw notable attention, and at the age of 16, she began recording with prominent music figures in her home country, finding herself working alongside producers for shows such as Idols, and South Africa’s Got Talent.

Mia earned other notable accolades along the way, such as honors from The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Despite her youth, Mia’s talent soon landed prestigious invitations to share her musical expertise, serving at age 18 as an adjudicator for major music events, such as the University of Johannesburg’s Vocal Serenade competition. Her abilities and industry savvy also landed her a coveted internship at Sony Music and Warner Music, where she worked on major motion picture soundtracks such as Sex and the City 2.

With a gift for creating floor to ceiling melodies and soaring, ethereal tones, it is no surprise that Mia was given a scholarship to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, thus beginning the second stage of her career in the United States. In 2011 Mia gained the impressive distinction of having graduated Summa Cum Laude with a dual degree in Vocal Performance and Music Business from Berklee’s rigorous curriculum.

Mia’s career has continued to flourish in the US. At the age of 21, some of Mia’s many accolades and outstanding accomplishments include sold out shows in 2009 and 2010, and being selected as one of the few vocalists to perform in the 2010 Berklee Singer’s Showcase, which honors Berklee’s most talented singers, including past appearances by Paula Cole, at the Berklee Performance Center.

Other major honors to date include being asked to perform alongside Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan) for the 2011 Berklee Commencement Concert, at one of Boston’s largest event centers, the Agannis Arena, to an audience of 4,000 people.

Stay tuned and keep coming back to check Mia’s upcoming itinerary: there will be many surprising appearances in upcoming seasons.
