Album Notes
We Shall Rise is the culmination of an 18-year project, created by the undauntedly enthusiastic, Petaluma, California based singer/songwriter Micha'el (Hebrew pronunciation of Michael), AKA Tim Talbott.

Sparked by soul-full artists like Paul Simon, Bob Marley, Tracy Chapman, John Lennon, Jimmy Cliff and Dave Matthews, after finishing an undergraduate degree in Business Administration at The College of Idaho, Micha'el decided to leave his hometown of Bend, Oregon, his family, friends, and a lucrative future career at a bullet manufacturing company to join the Peace Corps.

Taking an enormous leap of faith into the unknown, with no money to his name, Micha'el packed his bags with the 80 pounds of stuff that Peace Corps procedures allotted him, slung his old guitar around his back, and embarked on a two-year journey to the naturally and culturally rich West Indian island of Dominica. Dominican Republic, right? Nope, a little more south of there.

Being a performer, dancer, singer and deep thinker for as far back as he can remember, Micha'el felt compelled to travel the world as his heart and soul longed to live a life full of adventure, learning and self-discovery. He hoped that by seeing and experiencing more of the world, making a positive contribution by being in service to others, and spending solo, contemplative time outside of his known culture, that his inner flame would be ignited and thus he would find the inspiration to write meaningful and powerful songs that deeply move people. As he made his leap to his "road less traveled," Micha’el greatly resonated with Charlie Parker's wise words, "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn."

Influenced by the many educational, insightful and heartfelt experiences he had while living in Dominica, Micha'el’s hopes were more than fulfilled as he was inspired to write two dozen songs during this formative time of his life, six of which are included in We Shall Rise.

After his service was completed, Micha'el came back to the US and landed in Nevada City, California. From there he continued his conventionality-shattering journey, which included him: being a substitute school teacher and becoming a certified yoga instructor; living in an ecumenical spiritual community in Boulder, Colorado while working at a tax firm; and completing a Master's degree in World Religions at Naropa University, during which time he participated in many intensive meditation retreats and he embarked on other world travels, which included going to Israel and to Auschwitz.

Shortly after finishing at Naropa, he met the love of his life, they traveled throughout Brazil together and eventually they migrated back to her native Humboldt County in Northern California. During their time in The Lost Coast, Micha'el met his future brother-in-law, Tanner Speas, and the two heart-centered men immediately clicked, though it would be several years before the stars would align for them to formally collaborate on their shared love of music.

After working for a stint in the San Francisco Financial District for a Persian prince, Micha'el was married and his wife gave birth to their first daughter. He then invented an eco-friendly cat toy, got a job at a financial planning firm in Marin County and he and his family eventually migrated to the festively-spirited North Bay town of Petaluma. From there Micha’el settled into family life, and after working 9-5 for a number of years, he surprisingly found himself being flooded with inspiration for several new songs, six of which make up the remainder of We Shall Rise.

With his new songs in his soul and his second daughter on the way, Micha'el reached out to Tanner to see if he would be interested in joining forces to record an album together, and Tanner enthusiastically answered, "Sounds great!" The two men began to meet shortly thereafter at Tanner's studio (Studio Speas) for recording sessions, and four years later, We Shall Rise was born!
