ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The title "Inside My Head" refers to the composition of the songs on this collection. The germinal ideas were written between 2005 and 2010 as guitar sketches and stored on my iPhone. These consisted of a hummed verse, chorus, or guitar part. And there they sat. I would occasionally pull them out and play through them, then forget about them again. In late 2013, I pulled them out and picked through the 20 odd pieces and pulled out my favorite 13. I then worked these songs together as a group. This was a change to my normal song writing style of working a song through lyrics, recording, mix and mastering then going on to the next song.

I had the idea of writing the lyrics with my wife Sarah, who is a phenomenal poet. There is a long backstory that I could launch into now, but let's just say that it didn't quite turn out like Rogers and Hammerstein. In fact, we luckily pulled the plug on that general concept before it turned out like Lennon and McCartney.

So finally, I would write lyrics and Sarah would edit them and make suggestions (the work "Hush" was in fact her idea.)

The SONG "Inside My Head" is not about this process at all. Just read the lyrics and you'll see that it's about how love (and creativity) sneak up on you and take over the controls.

The songs were then recoded and mixed and re-recorded and re-mixed and mastered and re-re-recorded and re-mixed and re-mastered ....until you have the pieces on this collection.

Out of the blue, my brother-in-law Joel DeGrand (great photographer and artist) sent me a composite picture of himself standing on a pier overlooking the universe. At this time I had settled on the album title "Inside My Head," and his picture seemed to encapsulate that idea. He graciously shared the elements with me -- though his version still looks cooler to me! By the way, check him out at www.degrand.com and you will see that this concept is NOT his customary work.

So there you have it. I hope you enjoy the CD.
