Album Notes
\"August Ocean Overture,\" jazz piano by Michael Guy
Artist/Band: Michael Guy, jazz pianist

Jazz piano Debut CD of all originals by jazz composer and pianist, Michael A. Guy - All instrumentals with the flavor of the Tropical Oceans. Includes the popular \"Ocean Prelude, Seabreeze in G, \"Big-WAVE Rider\" which all priemered in November 2007 on the website: \"Creative Thinkers International. And also the popular but Neo-swing quartet styling of Duke\'s Groove. (also premiered on CTI in 2007). This CD is a compilation of his best piano music since year 2000, and includes a couple of his Jazz Dance Electronica compositions since 1995 entitled \"Jazz Dance Image\"
These electric quartet group compositions were recorded in studios in the 1990\'s but never released.
\"Duke\'s Groove\" is a short uptempo jazz stomp dedicated to his favorite Black American jazz composer: Duke Ellington. It is a compact tune less than 4 minutes that features his uncanny ability to solo in the voice of the instrument he is emulating on MIDI keyboards. In this case here a Sax solo with backing horns.
The second electric Quartet composition from his 1990\'s \"studio work sessions\" is the theme music for his self-start JAZZ CD label: JzCDz.com called \"Jazz Dance Image\". It is a \"tour-de-force\" of smooth jazz and country styled jazz beats and patterns done on sequencers. But it\'s long format time of over 8 minutes prevented it from being used as a promotional track.
If you\'re a fan of electric smooth jazz and electric New Age you will enjoy the second half of this CD that is essentially an earlier CD that was never released.
All of his later solo piano compositions are on the first 10 tracks of the CD and were recorded in \"live studio\" sessions. These are the recent \"live studio\" sessions from the summers of 2005, 2006, 2007 on Digital 2-track. All the playing is in the spirit of \"live\" jazz performance although none were recorded before audiences.

Michael Guy originally debuted in the summer of 1984 in small concerts in Massachusetts and New York City - following that he worked in New York city in music publishing at then Warner Brothers, but spent many years in seclusion in Florida, composing while undergoing treatment for Kidney Dialysis. With a kidney transplant in 1990, he briefly returned to playing in Florida in the mid-90\'s but chose instead to concentrate after that on composing and studying orchestration. His downloadable music is available as mp3 files on his JzCDz.com Storefront and at Amazon.com He has done classical compositions, including his growing popular \"Symphony on Native American Themes\". It was composed and orchestrated in 1996-99 and digitally performed & recorded by the composer. A digital performance of this on CD will be released in the near future.
He is also author of the Amazon-available Historical Fiction novel: \"THE LAST RENAISSANCE MAN\"
CD: 14 tracks in 71\'16\"

You can hear full tracks of his music, including an upcoming CD entitled, \"In Memory Only\" and you can read from his fiction novels that often include a music topic, theme or music related characters. Go to his personal website at: TheLastRenaissanceMan.net

August Ocean Overture
Michael Guy is a seasoned musician and performer. Michael’s quest for excellence is apparent in his debut album, August Ocean Overture. Like Jimmy Buffet and Bruce Hornsby, Guy draws upon his surroundings to create moods of the sea, the sand the breeze, and tropical love, ranging from easy listening to strong dance to passionate ballad reminiscent of Springsteen. Orion Calling takes you to outer space. You’ll get hooked on Michael Guy.

Prelude To: Big-Wave Rider 3:47

The Sirens are calling in the background as heavy throated organ tones extol the sea. Better than the big ride.

Big-Wave Rider 10:38

This piano tour de force opens hopefully as the surfer seeks the big wave. Rocking gently in the swells, Michael Guy takes you from the bubbles beneath to the spiritual high of catching a big wave and milking it all the way to the beach. Wonderful to listen to.

SeaBreeze In G 3:13

One can almost feel the breeze on your neck as Michael's fingertips caress the keys like a wind chime. So peaceful, serene.

SeaBreeze In e Minor 4:14

This lilting tune begins with breezy violin and ends with a crescendo of piano keys. Expectation is in the air.

Ocean Prelude 5:13

Ocean Prelude begins softly and calmly like a day on the beach, Michael’s keystrokes eventually pulling a chorus to the fore. Totally relaxing.

August Ocean Overture 3:17

Anticipation is heavy in this album's signature piece, searching the keys for fulfillment, like looking for lost love, never found.

The Deep Abyss (vocal) 4:51

In a deep baritone voice, Michael faces the metaphoric hurricane of love. How deep is it? The pearly beach of love.

OceanSuite: Ending 1:18

A quiet repose, watching the boats come in for the day. Refreshing close

Orion Calling 8:06

Michael's keyboard explores the deep space of night with its dramatic magic. For lovers to wish on. Thrilling.

Rebirth of the Cool 6:42

With subtle insinuation, Michael Guy combines piano and orchestration into a laid-back experience, followed by a chorus of heavenly voices. Easy listening at its best.

Jazz Album Dance Image 8:36

Bound up in a captivating beat, Michael takes his familiar melody to new highs and sultry lows. Seductive dancing, this one. Heavy innuendo. Accelerated ending

BasStringBlues 2:23

With rippling movement, this low down blues seeks to please.

Duke's Groove 3:58

Upbeat and lively. Imagine two dancers locked in love, circling the floor in ever widening spirals. Fabulous.

My Country 5:00

In a style reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen, Michael belts out a ballad of the struggle to survive in a place called, home. Would like to hear more.
