ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
TONI  is an international performer who most recently has been singing in clubs in New York City. In keeping with her belief in the truth and essence of things, she tries to stay clear of the world of created complications, which she characterizes as modern "mind dust" . She wants the songs that she sings to reflect  that Survival and Love are the foundations of all that is important.  She hopes that listeners may be cautioned to stop running through life, and instead listen to themselves and trust their own instincts. She is attracted to songs that have somewhat of a retro-flavor, in that they are pure, musical, and poetic, rather than aiming to be "cool" or "hip." According to Toni, she sings songs that go "back to the roots" of what is basic in life and that speak about moments in time and moments of truth, sometimes epiphanies.

When composer / songwriter / arranger / producer / musician Michael Kingsley met Toni, he was struck by the haunting quality of her voice, her poetic sensibility, as well as her fascinating stage presence. One day on her way out of his studio after a rehearsal for another project, she asked what he was playing on the piano. When he told her it was one of his songs, she said that she loved it and that she wanted to work on it.  And so began a road to recording several original songs for release as singles.  Michael was delighted with how intuitively Toni related to his material and how her vocals brought new meaning to familiar work. The unique sound of her voice then inspired him to write new music and lyrics that he hoped would connect to the depth of her artistic spirit.   He notes that her natural instincts get her inside the very center of his songs and that she sings from her heart with true conviction. As he puts it, "her voice has an incredibly expressive timbre that exhibits both strength and fragility and is disturbingly beautiful."

MICHAEL KINGSLEY's life's passion has always been music. He is a full-time independent composer/ arranger / producer/ musician, working at MK Studios in NYC on music projects of others, as well as those of his own creation. He deeply appreciates great music of assorted genres and does not restrict his musical expression or wish to narrowly categorize what is possible in the joy of creation.

Michael's diverse work has been represented in a large variety of venues including film, television, radio, night clubs, concert halls, Broadway, regional theatre, and commercials.

so much more than notes
I like this song a lot. The vocals have an effortlessness and great musicality. The space created by Toni's voice leaves room for you to imagine your own world, to make your own story. I have a feeling of mystery when I hear it.

I love moody atmospheric music
I love the mood of this song and can't wait to hear more from Toni and Michael Kingsley. The quality of Toni's voice reminds me of Marlene Dietrich. There's something elegant about the vocal. It's sounds like it's from the past but would fit just as well in the future.

Edgy, Dark and Sumptuous Love Song by Toni
The haunting quality of Toni's voice and poetic sensibility makes this song a perfect choice for a playlist of love songs. It will appeal to those who like Lana Del Rey and Nico. The beauty and depth of the singer and the song are real. Toni delivers a cool yet wrenching vocal. I love this. The arrangement and production by Michael Kingsley is classic, swelling and emo-electronic. Love it.
, Toni will appeal to those who like their love songs edgy and dark. She is equally at home in a cabaret or a Bushwick club. “My songs are about survival and love as the foundation of all that is important,” she says.
She approaches her work philosophically. “I believe in the truth and the essence of things,” Toni says. “I try to steer clear of the world of created complications, the modern mind dust.”
Indeed, listening to her latest work with Michael Kingsley The Heart is Not Involved one feels clear of “mind dust” as the beauty and depth of the singer and her song infiltrate the air. A sweeping orchestral arrangement anchors the song, which is about deep loneliness. The vocal is wrenching and real.

Precious & beautiful
I love the sense of truth in this recording. The singer has transposed her own emotions into this song, giving it a substance that is rare in music today. Its excellent, almost unbearably moving, though I'd like more 'real' instruments next time. Wonderfull.
