ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This album features works written by traditional and lesser-known composers, whose music was influenced by classical music's Romantic era. The members of Turbine, a trio comprised of an oboe, horn, and piano, are musicians with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The album begins with the only known recording of Robert Kahn's Serenade, as written for its original instrumentation. The recording introduces an arrangement of songs from Robert Schumann's song-cycle Myrthen, Op. 25. Each of the four love songs are preceded by a spoken translation of each poem by Kimberley Lynne. Myrthen is followed by a short, melodic Romance by Adolphe Blanc. The heart of the album consists of the Trio, Op. 61 by Heinrich von Herzogenberg. Herzogenberg was a friend and colleague of Johannes Brahms and this monumental chamber work rivals any of Brahms' compositions. The recording ends with an arrangement of 'Danny Boy: Old Irish Air', which follows Fred Weatherly's original harmonization.

"What great repertoire [Turbine has] put together!" - Tim Smith, Baltimore Sun
