Album Notes
Michael’s first release "Part of the Plan" in 2013 marked the beginning of a 3 year project to change the direction of his music to incorporate sounds from around the world that pulled at his heart strings. His uses the bouzouki, Acoustic and electric guitars to bring a raw and open feel to his songs, and also interjects a traditional or middle-eastern influence into his genuine, and heartfelt approach to writing music. His latest release “Spare Me Some Humanity” combines lyrical depth and world music complexity weaving together stories of heartache, broken dreams, hope and redemption. For example the title track puts the listener in the place of a street person trying to panhandle a few bucks to get by. ‘Veil’ is a bouzouki driven middle eastern themed song of dark and concealed lyrics. ‘Haven’ is an instrumental with a middle eastern riff and jam band funk. ‘Learn to live Right’ is an Afro-pop influenced tune asking all of us to treat each other with compassion. Strewn throughout are contemporary folk tunes of loss and heartache. ‘When the flowers bloomed’ is reflective of Rod Stewart’s seminal song ‘Mandolin Wind’ from the 1971.
Like Michael's live shows, the songs on this CD contain a mixture of styles from folk and blues to old timey to middle eastern instrumentals to upbeat Afro-pop/Reggai influenced music. Lyrically they take the listener to the dark places of their hearts and minds, and provide the comforting knowledge that the listener is not alone. These songs provide a voice to the down trodden, the lost, and the hopeless, and in the end leave the listener with the knowledge that sun keeps rising each day to provide a chance to heal.
