Album Notes
Medium Fidelity is Michael Philip Reed's first entirely "studio recorded" album effort. Funded by one hundred and sixty six financial backers, Medium Fidelity was recorded in a rented, sound-proofed practice room in San Diego, CA over the span of seven months. The songs were conceived and/or written between the years 2015 and 2017.

Using cassette & 1/4" reel to reel recorders, computers, and battery powered portable recorders, uniquely textured tracks were captured. Peculiarity is a distinct feature of this album. You will hear eccentric a variety of instruments, including early 80's Casio keyboards, nylon stringed banjo, flea market drum machines, clavinet, strings/flute tape loop mellotron, samplers, congas and the tin whistle, all in addition to more conventional instruments - A variety of guitars, electric bass, bass and lead synthesizers, a weathered four-piece drum set, Wurlitzer electric piano and a small 64 key upright piano.

The title of the album is a description in it's own right. Every track of Medium Fidelity sounds the way it does for a reason. One of the initial two goals of the album was to faithfully reproduce what is heard in an individual's mind during extensive moments of both auditory and social isolation, regardless of whether or not the resulting recordings turned out to be crystal-clear hi-fidelity or (often intentional) low-fidelity. The other goal was the act of keeping a promise Michael had made to himself when he was sixteen, that his first official album effort would be a solo effort. (project backers!, read below)

Michael wrote, sang, played, recorded, mixed and mastered the entirety of Medium Fidelity 2015 - 2017, in addition to photo/video documentation, album cover art and album graphics/design.

With that said:

MOST importantly - This was a solo project only in the sense that I was physically alone during it's conception, creation and completion. The truth is, I was assisted by you, project backers, in both tangible and intangible ways. I hope you enjoy this joint creation of OURS. Thank you so very much if you supported me during this seven(+) month endeavor, or if you will be supporting me now by purchasing either of my albums. I do not assume that I could have achieved this without your help.

Through these songs, I seek to share with you more about who I am, where I am coming from, and how I look at life. I hope to gift you more of an understanding of both my bright side, of which most of you are already aware, and my darker, more personal depths. In a way I am reaching out to you, in the hopes of closing the gap of understanding little by little. I keep to myself for the most part, but over the span of my career I hope to reach those that need reaching through my music and my other art forms, and I hope we can grow in parallel, even if at a distance sometimes. Medium Fidelity was made for you precisely as much as it was made for me.
