Album Notes
Michael Waldrop is a jazz percussionist and composer and is currently a professor of percussion and jazz at Eastern Washington University. He has played drums with a plethora of world class jazz artists including Eliane Elias, Marvin Stamm, Maureen McGovern, Frank Gambale and Jimi Tunnell. He can also be heard on 3 CDs with the Grammy nominated University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band as well as the Warner Bros. soundtrack "Christmas Vacation". He is currently a member of the Bob Curnow Big Band based in Spokane. He performs frequently in the area with the EWU Faculty Jazz group and as a freelance percussionist in the Spokane area.

"Triangularity" is a jazz piano trio recording of Waldrop's original compositions with one composition by Girshevich. The group style is reminiscent of classic jazz piano styles as exemplified by the Bill Evans trio, the Keith Jarret trio and the Peter Erskine trio. The CD was recorded in 2002 in Denver and features Denver based virtuosi Vlad Girshevich on piano and Eric Thorin on bass. Girshevich is one of the most in demand pianists in Denver and was recently featured at the Santa Fe jazz festival. Thorin has played with many great jazz artists and is currently an artist with Rounder Records.

Here are what someone notable musicians and music press have said about Triangularity:

"Michael Waldrop is an excellent drummer, percussionist and composer. The writing and playing on his CD Triangularity is world class"- Steve Smith, 2002 inductee into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame and 5 time winner of MD's Best All Around Drummer Award

"It's an excellent album, great playing all around. The pianist is really something special. You all sound great!"- Marvin Stamm, renowned jazz trumpeter

"You only have to hear several minutes of the opening piece to realize you are in the presence of extremely talented musicians. Thorin's melodically brilliant solos, dazzling displays of virtuosity by pianist Girshevich, and the rhythmically inventive and electrically charged accompaniments of Waldrop. ...Any contemporary jazz aficionado would be hard-pressed to find a CD that can provide more return for his or her investment."- Percussive Notes Magazine, October, 2003
