by Michel Berthiaume Quartet

The music reflects my eclectic taste and includes many different contexts I wanted to explore with the band: swing, free improv, dissonance, and heavy metal. It is not confined to any particular genre but still has an identifiable sound.

Album Notes
So far, when I compose, I do it without any commercial considerations for better or for worse! Hopefully, if I can write some music I can enjoy from an honest place, somebody else will...

I'm driven by the pleasure I get working out a musical idea as best as l can. That certainly was the starting point of this album. I got a kick out of experimenting with dissonance, randomness, and rhythm...to create a new vocabulary for my myself. Parallel to that, I thought of different contexts I wanted to play in...then the music took shape...

I'm happy this album expresses some strong emotions I wanted an outlet for. I wanted the music to hit a certain way and I think does. Also, I'm happy that the music isn't locked to any particular genre (to me) and reflects my eclectic musical tastes while still having a identifiable sound and unity. I'm also critical of many things but I won't bore you!

Thanks to Jenny Berthiaume for your support and encouragement. It's not easy being with a drummer and a musician!

Thanks to Gentiane, Levi and Evan for their encouragements, hard work and inspiring playing. Also thanks to Solon, Rhyspan, Sebastian, Olivier and anyone who helped to shape this music by reading it at a session or simply caring. Thanks to George for Engineering, Mixing and Mastering.

Thanks to John Hollenbeck for always being blunt and honest. A rare and brave trait that I cherish. You are a source of inspiration.

Thanks to YOU for listening. Seriously! (I don't think this is easy music and I'm grateful for those who are interested.)

Hope you enjoy
