ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Michelle Forbes, creator of the Kimberley Medieval Festival (now Kimberley Viking Festival), has studied the culture and history of the Scandinavian people, and weaves the imagery of Norse Mythology into this lullaby, which is also available as a children’s book, beautifully illustrated by the talented Viking re-enactor Amanda Postey.

As a former Elementary school music teacher and mother of four little Vikings of her own, she has spent years working with children and music. She has combined her love of Norse mythology with her love of music to create this song, which was instantly loved and embraced by the Viking reenactors attending The Kimberley Medieval Festival.

Pierre Delionnet, Jarl of The Úlfhéðnar Okanagan Vikings, had this to say about Viking Lullaby:

“Re-enactment is a wonderful way of reaching out to people, sharing our love of its history and its stories. Remembering our past and regaling the young with tales long spoken helps instil a wonderment for history as well as to their ancestral roots. The Úlfhéðnar - Okanagan Vikings have been re-enacting for many years, participating in a dozen demonstrations this year alone, from a hundred or so elementary students to over ten thousand at the Kimberley Medieval Festival, in Kimberley, British Columbia.

“It was through this festival that I had the pleasure of meeting Michelle Forbes. I found Michelle to be a wonderful orator and a master at weaving words that entice the ear of all, young and old. Her stories and song hark back to a time, though hard and unforgiving, heralded many tales of bravery and wonder.

“These are the tales and songs that keep our past alive, as well as our connection to our ancestors and the generations that follow.”

Colby Dalton, with the Sons of Fenrir Viking group in Calgary, Alberta, has this praise for Viking Lullaby:

“From the popular television series “Vikings”, and “The Last Kingdom”, to portrayals in the Avengers, and even the comedy series “Norsemen”, it appears that Vikings and Viking culture have recaptured the imagination of Western popular culture, a resurgence perhaps from the fur clad horn helmed Conan the barbarian. As re-enactors and historic enthusiasts, Sons of Fenrir sometimes see this as a double edged blade. Historic interest is an incredible boon, but misinformation is rampant, and stereotypical simplified Vikings are too often misunderstood as bloodthirsty raiders without an amazing culture. The Sons of Fenrir does what it can to share all of Viking culture with Western Canada, putting on shows, at venues such as Calgary and Edmonton’s comic cons. But we can’t reach everyone. Works like “Viking Lullaby” show the gentleness, love of family, and religious complexity of dark ages Scandinavian people, and are important as they teach the people behind the longships. I can’t thank Michelle enough for the work she is doing to promote history, and engage families in a relationship with history. What an amazing book and song to share with your children!”

This is the first of many Viking songs Michelle has written and is working to share with Viking enthusiasts to help share Viking history and culture around the world. The perfect lullaby to lull all little Vikings to sleep. Watch for the music video on youtube and pick up the book to go along with the song on Amazon today. Thank you for your support!
