Album Notes
Michika Fukumori Jazz Pianist

Born in Mie, Japan, she started to play the paiano at the age 3 and began composing at 6.
After graduating from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music,
she studied with a jazz pianist, Colgen Suzuki and she started to work professionally at many
different jazz clubs in Tokyo. In addition to forming her own trio, she played with Chieko Tsutsumi
(alto sax), Tatsuya Sato (tenor sax), Mihoko Uemura (vocal), and many others.

In 2000, Michi2008/10/26ka moved to New York and she studied with Ron Carter and Jeri Allen at City College
of New York. She also had private lessons with Steve Kunh. Michika toured Greece as a pianist of
Chiquita Green Group in2001 and completed her MA at CCNY in 2003.
She has been playing at many jazz clubs in New York such as Beekman Tower hotel, University of the street, the Garage,
and Lenox Lounge.She had also performances as the leader at the Blue Note with Per-ola Gadd(bass)
and Chip White(drums) in 2004 and 2005.She recorded her own album with David Finck (bass) and Billy Drummond (drum) and
had Japan tour with her own trio in 2004,2005,2006,and2007, with her own quartet in 2008.

Michika also works as the accomanist for Carol Fredette's Jazz Vocal Workshop and
Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts.

Recently She is regularly playing as the leader at Kitano hotel, Cleopatora's Needle with her own regular trio.
(Clovis Nicolas(bass) and Fukushi Tainaka(drums)).
