ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Listening to these tracks I realize how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to record with such wonderful musicians…………..and my brother.
All seriousness aside, Paul and I wanted to record the band in one room, set up the way we would when playing live on stage, not separated in recording booths. This of course means no editing, no corrections, what we get is what we get. Just as if we were playing live on stage. Thank God for our studio engineer Robert Bullington who knew how to make this happen. Listening to these tracks is like listening to us live on stage, thank you Rob!
Most of what you hear on this CD might be familiar if you follow our band. One new to the band is B.G.Bob, named for my good friend the late Bob Barfoot whose clarinet I have the honor of playing on this recording. Simply Splendid I composed in honor of our good friend and biggest fan Judge John Ball. When first starting out Dan Tobias and I had the honor of working with the great drummer Tony DiNicola. It is for him that Dan composed Trenton’s Tony D.
Paul’s suggestion of tunes range from the beautiful An Affair To Remember to the romping That Old Gang Of Mine, a tune we didn’t want to end.
A word about On The Beach At Waikiki, not exactly a jazz standard but none the less swinging. Not only does this cut give our guitarist Pat Mercuri a chance to play his new ukulele, an instrument he recently purchased for an upcoming Philadelphia Orchestra concert, but also a chance for our drummer Jim Lawlor to display his own special talent.
Special mention has to go to pianist Jeff Phillips, a true genius whose talents really made this CD possible. Also to our special friends Dan Tobias and Jack Hegyi, as far as I’m concerned the best on their respective instruments.
Enjoy! Joe Midiri
