ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Mieke Maligne (pronounced as Me-kuh Mah-lean) is a 20-year-old pop singer/songwriter who has been a growing presence in the Canadian Music Scene from as early as 2002. Falling in love with music as a child, Mieke has spent her years immersing herself in all styles of music and performance, gaining vocal as well as instrumental knowledge allowing for self accompaniment on guitar, ukulele and piano. Reflecting her love of diverse musical genres, you can hear strong elements of R+B, Rock, Jazz, and Folk within her contemporary Pop songs. Through this musical journey, Mieke has developed a truly unique sound and has harnessed an impressive song writing ability all her own.
Mieke’s musical career continues to flourish, as most recently she received the Rawlco Radio 10K20 $10,000 grant to record her newest album “Mosaic,” set for release September 5, 2014. This accomplishment followed upon being awarded “Jazz Album of the Year” at the 2012 Edmonton Music Awards for her debut album “Just the Sun” which received nation wide airplay. Mieke has sung alongside many talents including Edmonton’s best such as Jim Head, Sandro Dominelli, Bob Tildesley and Mike Lent. She has also shared the Edmonton Winspear stage with the worldwide-recognized artists in the David Foster Band.
Currently Mieke is going into her fourth year at MacEwan University to finish her Bachelor Degree in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music (vocal), achieving the Dean’s list in her third year. Mieke frequently gigs as a solo, duo or full band act, and has the capability to perform material in any genre with skill and confidence. She has proudly used her voice to support many organizations such as the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Canadian Mental Health Association, and the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Her ability to perform with a genuine, engaging nature and to write beautiful harmonies and catchy hooks has been well received by audiences nationally, and will continue to irresistibly warm and draw in listeners as she advances her journey in music.

Mosaic (album)
**Mosaic Sounds Grand** ---- If this album stressed you out writing and putting it together Mieke, it was well worth every ounce of tears and sweat combined !!. Upon hearing the 1st single ""My Call Goes"" , there is an apparent improvement in Quality of Production which seems one step higher in calibre than your previous musical effort "Just The Sun". The Compositions, melodies, individual performances and mixing duties all seem more focused, refined, more prepared for mass consumption. Vocally, you seem very Confident in your singing role, emotional approach, your experienced know how have all whipped things in your favour in fine form. Lyrically, all them quick tongue tied rhymes, word plays and meanings make the song interesting. The chorus is catchy like all good songs should be, and you seem to be getting in the process, a hands down approach on how to write a melodically ear catching tune successfully. Speaking of your musical influences, your Folk side i always found intriguing, its the roots of what has inspired us the most as musicians that always carries through and bleeds into our sacred music be it consciously or unconsciously, and your brand of Pop and Folk is intellectual and interesting indeed. When i come across a songwriter who is different than most, it amuses me to purposefully Delve and dive into their Head-space, to find and listen to what has inspired them to write a certain song and how their life experiences played a role in shaping the songs they so effectively write. That deep introspective Look from within is what i always found to be the most Rewarding of All, .....Job well done.
