Album Notes
"...it's as tight and right as any blues album this year."
Philip VanVleck, Billboard Magazine

"it rocks mightily."
David Menconi, News & Observer

Featuring the captivating Todd Dewberry on vocals, the powerful Mighty Horns, and a rock-solid rhythm section, Raleigh, North Carolina-based Mighty Lester has the crowd on their feet within seconds of hitting the stage. Drawing on influences from Kansas City, West Coast and Chicago Blues to Memphis Stax Soul, Mighty Lester keeps your hands clappin’, your toes tappin’, and your butt shakin’ all night long. Formed in 2000 as a trio, they quickly expanded to a seven-piece with harmonica and two saxes. After their first club gig, the core of the band decided to kick it up a notch. They let the saxes, harp and keys go and brought in a full horn section, new keys man and dropped the harp altogether. Hitting the stage in September 2001 for their first live gig with the new lineup they were crowned the champions of the Triangle Blues Society 2001 Blues Competition and made the semi-final round in the 2002 International Blues Challenge.

Having spent a few years perfecting their craft and finding just the right mix of people, they were proud to be crowned the champs at the 2005 Piedmont Blues Preservation Society Blues Challenge. They are had a phemoninal showing in Memphis for the 2006 International Blues Challenge with numerour radio requests, gigs and tour offers and even a sit down with a major label executive.

More recently, Mighty Lester had the Blues Track of the Day five times and the Blues Track of the Week two times on Garageband.Com. They also were featured as the opening track on a recent episode of the Roadhouse Podcast.

" The Mighty Lester Band are solid senders of Jump, Swing and Rock n' Roll. Big vocals, spot on horns and stinging guitar, a band after my own heart. "
Chris Vachon, Roomful of Blues

" Loads of fun "
Bruce Iglauer, Alligator Records

“ ...delivers a MONSTER performance.”
Durham Herald Sun

" Mighty Lester are deep into it. The rhythm section hits hard and Lenny has the sound and the fury. He owns the tone and understands why and how to swing. These guys love what they're doing. "
Cranston Clements, Dr. John, Maria Muldaur

" Mighty Lester's wall of sound will fall on you like a ton of bricks leaving you dazed...look out! "
The Blues Hound, 90.1 FM KPFT Houston

"MIGHTY LESTER is the total package, gift-wrapped: soulful R&B bedroom ballads, down-n-dirty blues and thumpin'-pumpin'-jumpin' jive swathed in a colossal big band sound featuring killer solos that slap a bright red bow on top."
Sherry Johnson, Triangle Rockin' Blues

Can barely stop swinging long enough to write this review!
This CD grabs you from the first notes and just throttles you with amazingly rich, deep bluesy swing. If only it didn't have to end.

Sanjo Productions

Great well rounded sound by this hip group.
This group is extremly tight and works thier way through an array of wonderful horn blues. "Give My Love a Try" just blew me away with it's retro Slow Drag sound.
Keep up the great work guys and never tell anyone who Lester really is. Hey it worked for Pink Floyd.

New Orleans Girl

This CD is all about rhythm. Big, lush - runs the emotional gamit.
This whole CD is all about rhythm. It is a big, lush sound and runs the emotional gamit. It will make you wanna sing, dance, jump, laugh, reminesce, and weep...but with a smile. We've all been to the places where Sorry Didn't Do It and Bring Me The Bottle take you. Get out the tissues for Give My Love a Try. Can't Sit Still for Big Bootie Baby. Tons of talent - the horns, the voice, strings, drums, piano. And that bari sax! He rumbles along with a surprising degree of sensitivity from that big horn (like a train to Paris). Just try gettin Skankin's tune out of your head...just try.

What an amazing hip swinging sound!
What a fabulous cd! This is by far one of the best, get up and go hip swinging sounds i've heard in a while!

Buy the CD, then see them in person
I love to play this CD on Friday afternoons at work - everyone stops by my desk to ask me who the hell is the great band? I have caught their act in person, and the great CD is only a teaser to the great, live music. You cannot sit down when Mighty Lester is playing.

Hot hot hot!
This group is smokin'! I'll be on the look out to catch them in person. I'll bet it's dancing room only wherever they play.

Steve Almasy

There is something for everyone on this CD. If you like bawdy blues, you got it. If you like something to swing to, you got it. You like cool lyrics, you got it. Full disclosure here -- my brother is one of the horn players, but that hasn't stopped my friends from loving this album, too

Don Davage

Fantastic. Recommended to everybody I know.
WOW! This was fantastic! I don't normally listen to Blues or Jazz, but I am wearing out this CD. Good musicianship, nice variety of music, and it's fun. I hope to catch Mighty Lester live as soon as I can.

Chris Newell

I dare you to sit down when these guys play! Skankin and Swingin at Lestres require full volume but watch out if you're driving the car! The wall of sound is fantastic, the vocals are strong and the hammond organ delivers!
