Album Notes

I began writing songs when thirteen to the rhythm of walking through green hills near my home. A wide range of influences have informed my music since then, from classical composers to Ali Farka Toure. But the strongest musical impressions came from my Mother. She loved to sing (and also did little jigs in the kitchen). As a family, we'd harmonize together at gatherings, when making dinner or riding in cars.

It's challenging finding a category for my music that is a true fit. I feel most aligned with 'Troubadour', one who sings their own songs and brings news from village to village. I am a storyteller. If I've lived or imagined it, I've probably written a tune about it. From singing in front of cafes on busy Paris boulevards, with my baby sleeping peacefully on my back, to performing before intimate audiences, festivals or over radio, I love to sing. Nothing makes me as happy as singing for people, moving listeners to tears (twisted huh?), sharing a story or five, or in my best dreams, inspiring further thought or action.

I usually play out solo, and on occasion with my current band, 'One Sky'. I share the stage with the brilliant T.G.Vanini playing violin and EC Lorick. We feel a sense of urgency, as our planet feverishly treads water, waiting for each of us to act more forcefully to protect the Earth from the consequences of our polluting it in so many ways, while our society exists in a virtually perpetual state of war. It's time for songs of peace.
