Album Notes
Midwest songer/singwriter Mike Barnett brings wit and depth to his music. With influences of 60's pop to new wave, Mike is diverse in his appreciation of simple hooks, yet strong, lyrical content.

A great tribute to the late George Harrison...
I enjoyed George Harrison, which i think is a fitting tribute. I also liked Are you Listening? and I still believe in Love is a good one. Well produced, well written and crafted with love and care. Mike always impresses each time out. Check out his limited release LP entitled Dasawl from 02 for some good stuff, too.

Mike is a master at putting an unexpected twist on a lyric
This CD is a great collection of songs with very memorable tunes and Mike's unexpected lyrical twists....I have been following Mike's music for the past few years and this is without a doubt the best collection of his own compositions.

Dylan and Beatle influences are strong--great music!
I really like this CD. Can definitely hear Dylan, Petty, and Beatle influences all over the place. Songs have hooks that catch you and hold you throughout. I would buy this CD--in fact, I probably will.

I got this album from my old chap Robert. I have enjoyed how well produced the album is, and the lyrics are so clever. To my knowledge, no one else has written a song in memory of the quiet Beatle, so Mike's "George Harrison" is right on the mark. How he was able to so succinctly capture George's guitar sound is a mystery, but he pulled it off. A joy to listen to. Where can I get other albums by Mike?

A gorgeous cd! full of folk, rock and pop elements. very lyrical and melodic at the same time. I love it!

Steve Colaw

Great guitar, nice hooks, powerfully nostalgic
If you liked the Traveling Wilburys, you'll love this CD. Easy to listen to, the hooks aren't forced and it sticks in your head, but in a good way. Great clean, folksy sound. A must have CD.

when's the new one out? Do tell!
Mike has new cd in the works...stay tuned to hear some more of Mike's great singing, songwriting and well crafted music. He's been putting the finishing touches on it down in Memphis and all points in between!

bought it and liked it
I bought this CD and really liked it. It reminds me of the Wilburys. I've played it for friends and they all liked it.
I would recommend this to anyone

On The Rise Magazine

One of the best Indie Albums of 03
This release from Mike Barnett is one of the best records I've listened to all year. Most people will get at least 5 of these tracks stuck in their head the first time through the CD. I would encourage anyone interested in good music to give this one a listen.

another good one from mike barnett
Imagine if Steve Forbert had joined Badfinger after Pete Ham. This is the best way to describe the sound of Mike Barnett on Shoes & Gadgets. Mike has a similar folkesque sound of Forbert with Badfinger melodic rock sensibilites. Check out his George Harrison tribute song aptly titled George Harrison. I especially like his remake of his own I Still Believe in Love. Catch the bit of Rutles at the beginning and end of Love Life (Mike's song, not the Rutles song of the same name). We're waiting your next one, Mike!
