The first that gained notoriety performed at the world famous “Donte’s Jazz Club” in North Hollywood Ca every Wend night from 1967 thru 1969. Many jazz greats came out of that band like Med Flory, Tom Scott, Bill Perkins and Mike Wofford. Even Ernie Watts and Joe Sample played in the band at times. Mike also did many TV shows and movies as well as composing and arranging over one hundred stage band charts for schools. The band at this time is made up of outstanding younger players and older “ringers” for a great combination and his best band ever. This is the eight album of the band released by Rhubard Recordings and their best!

1. La Fiesta. The great Chick Corea song from the 70’s. Jon Armstrong, tenor solo, Tony Bonsera, lead trumpet.
2. Groovin’ High. Dizzy Gillespie’s classic bebop composition based on the chord changes of “Whispering”.
Bob Summers, trumpet solo, Glen Garrett, alto solo, Tony Bonsera, lead trumpet.
3. The Sheik Of Araby. Great old standard from 1921. Jon Armstrong, tenor solo, James Blackwell, lead trumpet.
4. Girl Of My Dreams. Got the idea for this while watching a Mickey Rourke movie, one of my best charts ever!
Mark Lewis, trumpet solo, Tom Luer, soprano solo, James Blackwell, lead trumpet.
5. Port Townsend. Written for the Bud Shank Sextet about 20 years ago and just recently arranged for big band.
Vince Trombetta, tenor solo, James Blackwell, lead trumpet.
6. One Note Samba. The Jobim Classic. Jon Armstrong, tenor solo, Sam Hirsh, piano solo, James Blackwell and
Jonathan Bradley, lead trumpets
7. Cactus Sam. Who is Cactus Sam? I haven’t a clue! Tom Luer, alto solo, James Blackwell and Jonathan Bradley,
lead trumpets.
8. Gold N Juicy. We love our fast foods. Glen Garrett, alto solo, James Blackwell, lead trumpet
9. Tumbling Tumbleweeds. A rewrite of one of the first charts I ever wrote - 50 years ago!
Bob Summers, trumpet solo, Tom Luer, alto solo, Tony Bonsera, lead trumpet.
10. Sabre Dance. This chart will be played at the first Khachaturian Festival in 2035.
Sam Hirsh, piano solo, Tony Bonsera, lead trumpet.
11. The Phantom. A blues piano feature for Sam Hirsh. Bob Summers, trumpet solo, Tony Bonsera, lead trumpet.

Special thanks to:
Tim Jaquette at Citrus College, John Acosta at Local 47,
Tim Pinch, Hank Cicalo, Chris Doremus and Judy Neff.
Also, thanks to Brian Williams and Keith Bishop for copying the charts.
Thanks to all the band members for a great performance!
Mike Barone
