ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
His musical influences include Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keen, Verlon Thompson, and the overall storytelling tradition of Texas troubadours, past and present. In his voice you will hear elements of familiar country singers, yet a style distinctly his own. Just listen; there's no telling who you might hear lurking around the edges of this musical canvas.

Mike Brown is a proud Texan, born in the farming community of Comanche, Texas. His family put down their roots in Euless, a medium-sized city between Dallas and Fort Worth, where Mike serves as the Police Chief of the town he grew up in. The Dallas Morning News recently did a feature article on Mike under the headline "For the record, Euless police chief can sing!"

Music has always played a big role in MIke's life . He knew when he picked up a Roy Rogers guitar at age 3 that he was hooked on frets and strings. His Dad would take him to the Big D Jamboree in Dallas when he was a youngster, and Mike would later take himself to Panther Hall in Fort Worth where he would watch Willie Nelson, Ray Price, Floyd Tillman and other legends of the day.

The most influential artists in Mike's music have always been those who are able to put the seal of heart, soul, and honesty onto their work, showing us a little of themselves, and ourselves, in the process. Those are the true Texas troubadours, a different breed of performers who seldom worry about commercial viability, size of the crowd, or anything else outside the heartfelt telling of the song and the story.

Mike has now taken the music of his youth, the life experiences, and the lessons learned from his mentors... and put them together in "Just A Little". These are Mike's stories of love and loss, of tragedy and triumph, of miles traveled, and of people and places discovered along life's highway... 14 of his own handcrafted compositions, perfectly captured in the studio by Mike, along with some of Texas' finest session musicians. If you like good homegrown Texas Music, then "Just A Little" will feel as comfortable as a well-worn flannel shirt.
