Album Notes
About the Album
Sayings have survived over time because they tickle our imagination and continue to provide insightful and relevant lessons. Phrases like “don’t count your chickens until they’re hatched” or “like a fish out of water” are common to us all and are often casually slipped into our daily conversations. Unfortunately children today are not as likely to be exposed to traditional expressions, nor do they participate much in the subtleties of language wordplay. Sing Song Sayings will get your feet tapping while breathing new life into some age-old sayings with meaningful ideas.

Sing Song Sayings was recorded at Heavyosonic Studios in Vancouver between 2018 and 2019 with the help of talented engineer and musician Marc L’Esperance (Linda Mcrae, The Hanson Brothers, Po’ Girl, Ray Condo and the Ricochets). All songs are written and performed by Mike Bryden with musical support by Patrick Bartel (Lonesome Town Painters), Simon Kendall (Doug and the Slugs) and Marc L’Esperance.

About Mike
In Mike’s previous life he was a successful creative director with his own Vancouver advertising firm. In this new direction as a children’s entertainer he has carried forward his passion for a strong metaphor and has found his calling in "kid-splaining" proverbs through storytelling. This has allowed him to tackle some very important and relevant topics such as gender equality, active living and empowering our children through songs like The Goose and The Gander, A Rolling Stone and Petit Criquet.

Born in Montreal and Raised as a Franco-Ontarian in Ottawa, Mike is a graduate of fine arts (BFA), communications (BA) and graphic design and has worked extensively with educators and experts in early childcare development over the years. Although he has been performing as an amateur musician for most of his adult life, he says he owes his latest pursuit to the days he was a puppeteer for the cherished children’s singer Suzanne Pinel (aka Marie Soleil). Mike has called Vancouver his home since 1995 and began dedicating all of his time to performing for children in 2017, shortly after the birth of his daughter. He is extremely thankful to his East Vancouver community, its schools and daycare facilities that have helped launch his career and continue to support him.
