Album Notes
Now based in Hollywood, with roots in The Burren region of Co.Clare, Mike Considine is a self-taught musician who plays by ear and has an intuitive knowledge of melody, harmony, rhythm and syncopation. His specialty is the Irish bouzouki , tenor guitar and mandocello. He has appeared in concerts and tours with some of Ireland's finest musicians including John Carty, Cormac Breatnach, Tommy Peoples, Dermot Byrne, Brian McGrath, Alan Kelly, Sean Smyth, Brendan Larrissey, John Faulkner and Mary Shannon.

Mike spent 13 years in New Zealand where he was an integral member of the groups Rua, Claddagh and The Wylde Takafoleys. He is twice winner of the New Zealand Music Award, the "Tui" for Best Folk CD. He has recorded projects with many of New Zealand’s finest musicians including cutting edge producer, Jody Lloyd (Trillion). Together they produced “Bazuki Joe” – an Irish / Pacifica hybrid sound and Mike won two New Zealand music awards for his work with Claddagh and flautist, Brendyn Montgomery.

Mike recently collaborated in Los Angeles with NZ music icon Greg Johnson on his "Exits" project and also with irish/World musician Cormac Breatnach on his new CD, Éalú.

Mike holds a Masters in Irish Traditional Music Performance from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance (Limerick, Ireland) where he taught bouzouki and performed with various ensembles.

Notes from Mike on "An Irish Bouzouki Musical Memoir".

The Irish Bouzouki has been a huge part of my musical landscape since 1979. The sound of hearing tunes weaving against the melodic rhythm of the strings from Alec Finn playing his Greek bouzouki in Kinvara, captured a part of me that has become the musical bedrock from which I express and enjoy music. My first Irish bouzouki was made by Guy Crayford which led to a brand new Joe Foley bouzouki in 1992. My new EP, Permanent Resonance, features my Joe Foley and a new instrument from San Francisco maker, Lewis Santer.

The common thread through these instrumental pieces relates to the title, “Permanent Resonance”, a play on permanent resident, which salutes the many places I have been lucky to call home and that have contributed to my musical life - from the plains of Christchurch (NZ) and London's Western suburbs, into Kinvara and The Burren’s amazing landscape and on to the hills of Hollywood in Los Angeles.

I hope the music resonates with you.
