Album Notes
NY-based keyboard player, composer Mike Di Lorenzo provides his own brand of New York chill featuring a fresh blend of contemporary jazz with Hip-Hop, Latin and R&B elements.

Many selections are featured on "The Groove Boutique" and ""Chill with Chris Botti" on WQCD CD101.9 FM out of NYC.

11 original fresh, funky, instrumental compositions and an outstanding remake of Stevie Wonder's "Too High" make up this very musically hip and groove-oriented CD. By incorporating contemporary rhythms and textures with the musicianship of some of New York's finest, Mike is able to incorporate his varied experiences and wide range of musical influences into an impressive and tasteful debut. "The idea behind the CD is to connect with the rhythms and grooves that are happening today and hopefully provide an interesting blend where melody and harmonic creativity can be incorporated with popular rhythm formats."

Mike's range of performing credits include works with such artists as Whitney Houston, Cissy Houston, and Gerald Alston where he has performed at various NYC landmarks such as Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, the Blue Note and the world-famous Apollo Theater.

In addition to Mike's piano, keyboard and production credits, this CD is highlighted with standout instrumental performances from NY-based world-class musicians Bob Malach on tenor sax and Vinnie Cutro on trumpet, two extraordinary and well-traveled musicians in their own right who both provide a harmonically sophisticated jazz edge that compliments the feel of this project. For those of you unfamiliar with them, their backgrounds range from performing and recording with Stevie Wonder, Joe Zawinul, Steve Miller, Robben Ford, Yellowjackets, Dr. John, Horace Silver and Lionel Hampton to name just a few. Percussionist Frank Valdes whose work with Tito Puente and Machito among others adds a great deal to the vibe with tasteful conga and percussion work throughout.

Mike Di Lorenzo - piano, rhodes, keyboards
Bob Malach - tenor sax
Vinnie Cutro - trumpet
Frank Valdes - percussion
Willy Dalton - guitar
Karl Latham - drums

This CD make me happy. Very nicely.

Gave me a shot of positive energy!
The delicate balance of past inspirations and today’s energies works out beautifully on this album. The end game is…players perform to their highest levels without compromise and it makes this a consistently enjoyable release. It is inspirational for anyone that desires to create something in the same way.

Excellent CD, please further thus CD baby.

a near perfect blend of hypnotically fresh grooves that’s coupled with a rapture
Occasionally artist names, cd title, cover art or detailed lists of musician’s on any given project will sooner or later command your attention. After seeing the title “Urbanized” I must admit I was a little apprehensive at first considering all the gimmicks that are used to sell and promote products. New York based keyboardist, composer, producer, production specialists Mike Di Lorenzo has absolutely no tricks, or ulterior motives up his sleeve with his national debut cd titled “Urbanized”. Lorenzo’s music contains an atmospheric mix of harmonically fresh grooves and the textures of contemporaryjazz, Latin, Hip-Hop, Smooth, R&B and what he calls New York Chill.

Every track was completely awesome!

great album, loved it. a tiny bit MOR at times.
A very pleasant album indeed, I really enjoyed it. At times though I'd like to hear a bit more experimental moves, but maybe that asks for another genre.
It has the right groove though, works for me. Try also Bugge Wesseltoft, Marc Moulin or Till Brønner.

some of it is out of the "cool jazz" vein, some is hip and funky, and some is pleasantly "retro" The variety and lack of monotony on this album is what so pleasantly surprised me.

Terry Neal - Radio Logan Inc 101FM

great instrumental sounds that get regular airplay on my shows
From the opening track "City Vibe" to the busy in the city track "West 47th" to the final end of day sound of "After Midnight" you can find a piece of music that could place you in a particular physical place or mood. A thoughtful album in which Mike has been able to capture sounds that create very clear images and moods. Hope to hear more from him soon.
