Where the Current Takes Me

by Mike McEnery

Pack your bags for a musical escape to the Caribbean. Like the sea, this album is usually rockin' - with upbeat Trop Rock songs and stories about boats, beaches and beers. But it also provides moments of peace and tranquility from tender acoustic ballads.

Album Notes
Raise the sails, cast your line, and open that bottle of rum! This album is setting sail for the Caribbean, and the main destination is a party!

On his debut album Mike McEnery has put together upbeat island songs that will keep you “rockin’ with the waves all day” such as “Getaway,” “Tropical Empire,” and the title song “Where the Current Takes Me.” But the sea also provides time for calmer destinations and “peaceful hours of coastal navigation,” and so does this CD with tender acoustic ballads “Red Right Returning,” “Out on the Sea,” and “Sitting in Limbo.”

There’s also room on this ship for Mike’s sense of humor in “Turn Three,” a rocker about a NASCAR fan’s final resting place, “Frosty Mug,” a love song to a pint of beer, and “White Paper Hat,” a good old-fashioned murder ballad.

Musically the songs cover a lot of ground with instrumentation including harmonica, sax, trumpet, steel drums, steel guitar and accordion - not to mention some red-hot electric guitar on “Scattered, Smothered and Covered."

Genres touch on Rock, Country, Blues, Zydeco, Reggae, Folk, Americana and Trop Rock.

Guest musicians featured on the recordings include TRMA Trop Rock Duo of the Year, The Dententions (Austin, TX); jazz sax virtuoso Jim Stevens (St. Louis, MO); founding member of the band Phins, Mark “Catfish” Vesser on harp (St. Louis, MO); and trop rock favorites on steel drums Quincy Yeates (Ramajay Intercoastal, Knoxville, TN) and Barry Olsavsky (Conch Fritters, Caribbean Sound, St. Augustine, FL).
