Windows of Time

by Mike Mullins

"Windows of Time" pays homage to a variety of acoustic Americana styles, from contemporary folk, to Bluegrass, to slack-key, to swing, to Latin, with an emphasis on my mandolin and guitar playing. Hopefully, a little acoustic something for everyone.

Album Notes
The Windows of Time project pays homage to a patchwork of Americana styles and offers a nickel tour of my dusty musical workshop. There are narrative story songs with a historical angle, there are various instrumentals, from Bluegrass, to slack key to Dawg, there's a bit a swing and hopefully, a bit of humor to keep it all from falling too serious. Some of these tunes have languished in the steamer trunk for two decades, some are brand new, and others revisit past recorded efforts. I am primarily an instrumentalist, with mandolin and a deep old Martin dreadnought guitar being the tools of my trade. I have an incredible supporting cast in musicians such as Gabe Witcher from the Punch Brothers, Joe Craven and Jim Kerwin of the David Grisman Quintet, Phil Salazar, Tom Corbett, and my erstwhile producer and stellar instrumentalist David West. My influences are David Grisman, Norman Blake, Chris Thile, Tony Rice, and numerous others who have trod the acoustic music path and set a pretty high bar to aspire to. I am also most comfortable in the role of accompanist for an accomplished singer-songwriter or an ensemble player for an intimate acoustic trio or quartet, and this has been my stock and trade for over three decades. It was time, however, to do a little something of my own, as I'm invariably asked at shows whether I have any of my own material to offer. This project is my most sincere effort to answer that request, and I thank my fans for inspiring me to complete this project. To all you folks out there who have supported me, thank you. And to those of you who are new to my music, I invite you to take a quick listen. I hope you find something that grows the few minutes that we spend meeting each other into a new and lasting musical connection.
