Album Notes
In the many years I’ve spent as a composer-musician, I have always felt an attraction to early Western music. Aside from now famous Baroque composers like Bach, Scarlatti and Handel, many of the great writers from this and earlier periods are seldom known by the modern listener or lost to history entirely. These recordings capture this contrast of historical fame with a piece by none other than J.S. Bach, and another from and earlier time, by Benjamin Hely whose writings for the viol and viola da gamba may be lesser known, but are still used by historical performers today.

Both of these pieces have been personally rearranged specifically for the piccolo bass guitar (a bass tuned an octave higher than standard tuning) and combined with jazz reharmonization, and I hope to bring a new spirit and interpretation into these works on a modern instrument, transcending the times when they were composed.
