Album Notes
"Milla's execution and delivery are achieved with fluid, natural ease... A most vital attribute is Milla's capacity to convey sincere, deep feelings; her emotional colors warm and animate her soulful interpretations. She sings with admirably good taste, keen sense of time and implacable intonation."
--Dr. Herb Wong, jazz journalist/producer

Milla is a dynamic and potent stage presence with crystal clear intonation, an infallible sense of timing, and sultry vocals. Furthermore, Milla has that innate ability that we search for in singers, the ability to affect her audience deeply, to the core.

Milla evokes the feeling of an old-time alto vocalist, pressing into service the class and elegant throatiness of Ella Fitzgerald and the light-hearted sass and sexiness of Peggy Lee. Milla chooses her musical repertoire to allow her playfulness and soul to shine through. Her song selection conveys both a sturdy foundation in the classics of Porter and Ellington, as well as the daringness to re-create lesser-known musical gems.

Milla Milojkovic was blessed to have been born into a family of music enthusiasts. In the Milojkovic household, music was not only a way of life--it was also a way to stay connected to Yugoslav culture. Both parents having emigrated from the former Yugoslavia, her mother continued to sing Balkan folk music and play in tamburitza orchestras, Milla and her sister following in Mom's footsteps. At the tender age of five, Milla sang her first solo at a Slavic festival for a crowd of hundreds. From that point on, there was little else that Milla would consider as a lifepath, she was hooked. Her ethnic connections and her love of music would continue to afford her many performance opportunities in the rich Slavic music community throughout her youth. She began a rigorous study of classical voice and operatic training in her teenage years, going on to study at the Manhattan School of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she earned her B.M. in Vocal Performance.

Milla's journey into jazz and blues has proven to be her most rewarding and stimulating musical pursuit yet. She feels herself drawn to the intimacy and spontaneity of jazz, the intelligence of the lyrics and forms, and above all the freedom from convention that allows her to make each song her own.

Milla's debut CD "Dream a Little..." features soulful interpretations of some of the greatest American songbook classics. Her skillful renditions are further enhanced by several legendary jazz musicians: pianist extraordinaire Larry Vuckovich, bassist Buca Necak (who hails from her father's hometown of Belgrade), former Count Basie drummer Harold Jones, and the renowned Noel Jewkes playing a variety of reed instruments. The release has been gaining momentum, receiving airplay in over one hundred cities across the United States, with a future release in Europe.

Milla has appeared at the Park City Jazz Festival, in New York City, and in several prominent venues in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the Plush Room, Bubble Lounge, Purple Onion, Suede, Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society, Van Kleef's, Blondie's Bar & No Grill, and Original Joe's New Cabaret Room. Maintaining a full schedule of performances for both private and public events, Milla's star is rising steady.

"The sum of different nuances of her voice sustains her special sound bite and personalized story-telling. Milla sings... with conviction because she sings from the heart-artistic verity is her brand of integrity."
--Dr. Herb Wong, jazz journalist/producer

"Milla stands out with a beautiful vocal sound... She has the sophistication to influence your feelings. This woman has real feeling in her singing."
--Larry Vuckovich, jazz pianist
