Album Notes
"A Place Glowing a Brilliant Red" is a concept album about a civilisation of humans that colonises planet Mars. Set in the near future, we follow the development and the independence movement of this new society. As it slowly breaks up its economic ties with Earth, the society experiences an economic collapse. Although slow, this leads to a middle age period where the society, on the terraformed planet, breaks apart and establishes small city state like kingdoms and tribal societies. After thousands of years, new technological, and above all bureaucratic developments lead to a new Mars, a unified technocratic, developed, progressive society. The society enjoys past times such as having a weekend at an electronic store. Soon they discover their roots on planet Earth...

ACT I: The Transformative Years.

NARRATOR (over the opening chords): „People have gathered in Shanghai’s People’s Square after the news have been announced. The main satellites are gathered above the TV antennas and all the world’s Wifi signals have been overwhelmed and excited.“

Movement I: Here is Everywhere

NARRATOR: „Ladies and Gentelmen, if you’ll sit down please, our tour of the Tharsis region will begin. Tharsis region, as you know, will soon be terraformed into a green area, part agriculture and part forest. The engineers have planned to use the extinct volcanoes of the region to stop the clouds coming from the northern ocean and thus allow the region to become warm and watered for perfect conditions….(pause) If you look to your right, you will see the edge of the great Valles Marineris canyon, which is speculated to be a result of past tectonic activity. The massive canyon valley, the size of the Northern American continent itself is expected to fill completely with meltwater in the next 70 years as our nuclear warming project continues… (pause) Please get back to your seats Ladies and Gentelmen as we are about to commence the landing procedure….“

Movement II: Life Seeds Life

Movement III: Spacefaring Civilization

NARRATOR: „News Report. The Eunostos bank lead a domino effect of Martian banks to stop trading with Earth. As has been reported recently, after the rise of production prices on Earth, Mars has stopped importing valuable food resources. We urge our citizens to spend less and try to grow their foods in the outdoors. Please contact your local suppliers for more information.“

Movement IV: A Place Glowing a Brilliant Red

ACT II: The Native lands

NARRATOR „Many centuries in the future, …, Planet Mars, a green world with red cliffs and stratosferic mountain chains, covered by one blue ocean in the North and numerous lakes and rivers across the planet. Nowadays, primitive human societies, gatherers, hunters and early villagers occupy the planet. These are tall and slim people of various lineages inhabiting the whole planet. Their societies roughly split between the Tharsis region and Valles Marineris to the Northern and Southern. The Northern societies have slowly started the process of domestication and agriculture due to some surprising factors in the climate of their lands and the Southern people live in well balanced tribal societies.“

Movement V: Exclusion

Movement VI: Jungles of Tharsis

NARRATOR: „The crowds have congregated on the Tropical shores of Valles Marineris. They look accross to see the Gods themselves on arrival“ (DRUMBEAT)„The people are in awe as one of the Spirits, as they see them, arrives to the shore. Others follow from boats surely not made by man.“ „The Natives must have upset the Spirits…“

Movement VII: Far Ashore

ACT III: The Return of Ore

NARRATOR: „We at the Cydonia Corporation strongly believe that the Cydonia credit card is the only card you really need for travelling across the planet. Already our pilots are flying to the far reaches of our world, and soon into the vast void of space itself. With the Cydonia credit card, you can join them and pursue a personalised adventure with warm meals and financial security“

Movement VIII: A world of Steady Supply

Movement IX: Seizo

NARRATOR: “ After seeing a complete cycle in the story of our Martian people, where do you think will the complete ovation of the multitude occur ? Ah yes… the inventions of the day are already on the way..“

Movement X: Collisional Cascading

NARRATOR: „Welcome to Great Rift Sea, an usual feature on planet Earth. Our scientist are slowly discovering how this planet works and where we fit into this extraordinary picture. One interesting, yet purely speculative hypothesis is that we originate on this planet and our ancestors somehow made a leap across the interplanetary space. Much research is currently being done to uncover the untold history which we might belong to. Follow this programme weekly, every 9th day at 24:30 pm“
