ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The well-loved recording Mimi Baczewska's Turning Tide is now available on CD. This re-release includes the bonus track "Carry Me".

Mimi originally recorded Turning Tide in 1990, with music written before and after the devastating experience of losing all her possessions, home and business, to fire. This recording is full of the personal and universal qualities of expression, of the spirit that Mimi embodies best--making the most of whatever is presented to her, finding the positive, turning it into song. This recording speaks to Mimi's personal, global and universal views of life and love on the planet. The music is heartfelt, reflective, loving, fun and expansive-a rich nouveau-folk-jazz genre mix.

The recording has been re-mastered (by Randy Crafton at Kaleidoscope Studios, Jersey City) and is presented in an environmentally friendly state-of-the-art "soft-spot" package. The graphics were designed by Christine Baczewska, who also arranged and performed harmonies on Turning Tide. Mimi's mother Mary's painting "Wave", graces the cover.

A portion of every sale will be donated to The Afghan Women's Mission by Mimi, in cooperation with Oasis CD Duplication.

The bonus track, "Carry Me," was originally recorded on the 1993 Tsunami Records Inc. compilation release, Family of Friends. A favorite of concert audiences and radio djs, "Carry Me" adds another dimension to the emotional landscape of the CD and gives listeners something new to round out Turning Tide's lineup.

The re-release of Turning Tide invites old friends and new to join Mimi and her music. Make the journey from grief to hope, from longing to exhilaration.

Gaia So

Songs about life and love and doing what's in your heart.
Once upon a time, at a workshop for toning, Mimi said that sound and color are just different frequencies of the same thing. And that sound excites sound. When we make sound, we create something new. That’s what she’s done with this recording. A sound, an idea, a shift. Taking her life, her vision, her tragedy, and creating something beautiful out of it. Consciousness and human creation, turning the tide; with the intention of healing; truth coming from within; celebrating and grieving all at once. What better thing to do with a human life on earth?

Mimi takes her experiences to a mythic level, always a light touch , especially in the hard places. Explaining, in that sweet and gentle voice, exactly what it was like to lose everything except her self in a fire. Songs about life and love and doing what’s in your heart. We all need a little encouragement sometimes. When the air is still, and there is no discernable wind for your wings, Mimi has some to share.
