Album Notes
After exploding the conventions of jazz guitar with his two previous trio albums (Takin' the Duke Out and Goin' Out Again), New York-based guitarist Dom Minasi has taken a "kinder and gentler" route with his brilliant new CD Time Will Tell. But the spirit of adventure and innovation is not diminished even an iota on this dynamic excursion by Dom's ensemble, DDT + 2.

With the all-string core group of Dom, cellist Tomas Ulrich and bassist Ken Filiano augmented by John Bollinger on drums and vocalist Carol Mennie (appearing only on a lovely rendition of Thelonious Monk's Round Midnight), Time Will Tell offers a different, but no less provocative side of the amazing guitarist's expansive musical vision.

"...joyous artistic abandon." George W. Carroll -

"Even the most circuitous approach can produce unexpected results, and Minasi has certainly achieved something of unexpected-and rare-beauty."
Franz A. Matzner -

"...hits with a mature force that absolutely kills."
Charles Walker -

"This record is arguably the guitarist's best to date."
Eric J. Iannelli -

"I often have said, 'Capture the moment and you will capture a star', well this time the star has brought the moment to the listener in the form of creative Jazz." Karl Stober -

"Dom Minasi's DDT + 2 has created a statement that's quite unlike any other to be encountered elsewhere." Don Williamson -

"... a sound that comes across as carefully considered rather than merely self-indulgent. Strongly recommended." Rick Anderson - All Music Guide

"Dom Minasi continues to make provocative music, more so today than yesterday." C. Michael Bailey -

"If you have yet to experience the work of this virtuoso avant-jazz guitar legend, Time Will Tell would be a great place to start."
Dave Mc Avinchrey - Guitar Nine

"On Time Will Tell, Minasi makes music that is original and accessible."
Barry Bassis - The Westsider, NYC

" hour long listening pleasure." Elliot Simon - All About Jazz, New York

"This is an adventurous session that works nicely."
D. Oscar Groomes- O's Place Jazz Newsletter

"Feverishly recommended"
Glenn Astarita

"...serious yet elegant, a fine modern jazz recording that understands tradition without being trapped in it. " Phil Zampino-The Squids Ear

"If jazz had singles, then the group's reading of Wayne Shorter's "Witch Hunt" would surely be a hit." Jay Collins-

"Like the jazz masters that Minasi honors, his music carries with it a strong sense of power and emotion. " Jim Santella-

"Like the jazz masters that Minasi honors, his music carries with it a strong sense of power and emotion. " Jim Santella-

" Through-out, Minasi and company.., achieve a near-perfect balance of swing and freedom." Mark Keresman Jazziz

" Minasi's subtle flow of ideas yields startling surprises from behind a deceptively comfortable, not-quite-mainstream disguise. " DR Audiophile

" Dom Minasi is finding creative ways to play both 'inside' and 'outside,' often within the same arrangement. It's exciting to hear someone developing a unique body of recorded work unencumbered by the pressures of large labels looking only at the bottom line." Marshall Bowden Jazzitude

..........clever and creative play with textures
What do you do after releasing landmark jazz guitar albums using orthodox bass/drum combos? You season the combo with a string, (a Cello to be exact), and take off in a new direction. Dom Minasi employs liquid lead and rhythm breaks on a warm, rounded guitar to contrast delightfully with the Cello harmonics captured so well on this album.

Tomas Ulrich encourages the Cello to enter registers unheard of , urged on by Ken Filiano on an agile driving bass, abetted by a nimble John Bollinger on drums played any way you wish. The icing on the cake comes on the final track with the addition of dusky sensuous vocals by Carol Mennie. The recorded sound is cleanly spread across the stereo spectrum, and the quality packaging is entertaining and informative. An essential addition to the CD collection of anyone tracking current jazz evolution.
