ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
MISS WHISKEY is a female Melbourne-based blues duo putting their raw and original stamp on blues music. Formed in 2014 as an avenue to focus on the music they love, MISS WHISKEY are quickly making their mark on the blues scene in Australia.

WINNING the 2015 Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society (MBAS) Blues Challenge (Solo/Duo category), they hit the stage in Beale Street, Memphis, Tennessee at the International Blues Challenge in January 2016. As well as representing the MBAS in the International Blues Challenge, they also featured as part of the Blues Foundation’s International Showcase.

ONE COLD NIGHT is their independent debut release and was recorded outdoors at The Fitzroy Pinnacle on a cold Melbourne night in winter of 2015. Mixing up their own original music with classic blues standards from the greats like Junior Wells, Sonny Boy Williamson and Jimmy Reed, it captures the raw energy found at a MISS WHISKEY gig and showcases this gritty female duo’s harmonica-driven style of swamp blues.

Singer, songwriter ANNA SCIONTI (pronounced Shon-tee) on vocals, stomp, guitar and slide (resonator & lap steel) brings her original songs to the duo, two of which feature on this debut CD (Track 3 - Three Times; and Track 4 - Too Much Drinking).

Playing and singing since her teenage years, Scionti’s songs and vocals have a maturity and depth only found over time. Think, Janis Joplin, Big Mama Thornton or Suzie Quatro’s dirty gravel vocals combined with a rhythm on guitar set by Scionti’s percussive right hand. You’ll be saturated by her warm, yet haunting, blues embellished vocals.

JULIE NOBLE on harmonica adds color and texture to both the original songs and blues standards played MISS WHISKEY style! Playing the blues on harmonica has become second nature to Noble and her passion for it is infectious. Her biggest influences are Slim Harpo, Junior Wells, Paul Butterfield and Little Walter.
