ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hailing from San Diego, California, Mittens describes its music as "indie pop" yet distances itself from the quirky and saccharine, in favor of a more robust and timeless approach.

In this debut effort that has taken five calendar years to complete, long-time friends Ramona and Lia trade off on their vocal, guitar, and bass duties, each bringing a distinctive vocal and songwriting style. Meanwhile, multi-instrumentalist Paul contributes with frequent guitar breaks, Baroque keyboard tendencies, layered harmonies, and the occasional lead vocals. Anchored by the powerful drumming of Tyler, the Mittens sound is one that is immediately easy to enjoy.

Mittens may have been inspired by Rilo Kiley and The Cardigans in the beginning, but the band has grown to include many more influences over the years. Drawing inspiration from indie heroes, oldies hits, classical piano, and Japanese rock music alike, this album is a true labor of love that reflects a genuine DIY spirit. Indeed, Paul played engineer for many years while Ramona, Lia, and Tyler contributed endless tracks in various garages, practice spaces, and living rooms.

So far, Mittens has been fortunate to experience a great reception in its native San Diego (with a few fans spread all over!) and can only hope that this album will reach more fans in San Diego and around the world.
