"EPISODE" (Gor Music) is Gor Mkhitarian's self-produced 3rd album written and recorded entirely in the United States. Joining the wave of Armenian immigrants who settled in the Los Angeles, CA area in the past decade,

Mkhitarian's newest offering is a window into the life and times of an artist who reflects on his past while yearning for the future. Mkhitarian resists littering the album with cliched themes and instead focuses once again on original ideas and themes. The sound lies somewhere in between "Yeraz" (Pomegranate Music) and "Godfather Tom" (Pomegranate Music), with the addition of an accordion, keyboards, and an even more expansive sound. The sonic quality is fist rate.

What is immediately striking in this album is the issue of isolation and longing as evidenced with "Wherever", "Stigma", and "90 Days". Other songs such as " Cold Wagon 1993" and "Me and My Country" reveal the hardships and challenges his Armenian identity has created for him. "EPISODE" is Mkhitarian's most accessable album to date, with a breezy melancholy throughout the recording. This album exhibits the same mature and refective tone that have been Mkhitarian's trademark, albeit with the new setting within the LA/Hollywood landscape. In the end, the artist doesn't sell out. Mkhitarian fans would have it no other way.

a keeper for my music collection
It is my lofty goal to learn to play guitar half as good as Gor. Melodic and commanding, his music cannot go ignored once heard. I can only imagine the admiration his fellow Armenians have for his music.

All but the bonus song is sung in Armenian and relates the hope and pride that still resides within the hearts of Armenians despite the pain of their bitter history, as the last song in English says, "life is great, but life is common pain."

CD Baby

An Armenian Dave Matthews? Perhaps. But having been a top seller and having sold almost 5-grand in CDs just on CD Baby between his first and second release, there's undoubtedly something to his music that people are reaching for. With an acoustic base, he blends the popular folk rock sounds of the West with the distinctive qualities of the Armenian world music. Find out why he's one of our favorites.

More, Gor! More Gor!
While I prefer the sparer sound of Yeraz, there's nothing I don't like about Episode (I'm notoriously picky, too...) I think the songwriting has gotten stronger, although it was already quite good. Fine, fine stuff. I heard some Scottish musicians advocating for their folk tradition, saying that there are some musics in which the sounds of the words, the sense of the words, & the melody & rhythms fit together so well & so satisfyingly, that they become seamless. I think Mkhitarian has that knack. Thanks for the music!

Must give it a listen. ****HOT*****

Brilliant troupador,, outstanding arrangments, moving lyrics, - an Armenian equi
Gor is brilliant. An Armenian equivalent of Cubas Silvio Rodriguez. Pleasing music layered by poetic lyrics. The music was really enjoyable to my American ear. The lyrics although in Armenian sounded natural with the western style contemporary rock, intguiging and I totally enjoyed this CD.
