Album Notes
Matt McBride- composer, guitar, effects and micro-processor.
Michael Gaughan- composer, congas and percussion, harmonica, sound effects.
Sometime during the year of 1997 Matt, Mike and Sam Alfaro
came together to form a trio called the "Tropical Expressions". Sam sang and played guitar. After about a year together Sam moved away due to personal reasons. That is when Matt and Mike decided to carry on as an instrumental duo. A new style and song list was created around influences of Flamenco, Latin jazz, Rock, Latin Rock and carribean rythms and melodies. Mike likes to say that his rythmic nuances create a framework for Matt to paint a picture with his guitar work. Sometimes it works the other way too, with Matt creating the framework with his innovative guitar stylings and Mike layering and coloring with moving conga rythms and whistful harmonica styling. When playing other artists songs Matt and Mike like to "change it up a little" and add their own tropical styling. Matt and Mike want listeners to let the music wash over their psyche in a mixture of melody and rythm that will take them to a beach by the ocean on a tropical island where the cares of the day will be soothed away. This is the trademark of the refreshing sound of the "Tropical Expressions".
