ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"I am drawn to the stories found in the music of Ireland, the poignant songs of emigration, the passionate love songs, the gentle ballads, the whimsical tales of fairyland and the sacred songs. I am first and foremost a storyteller."
Margaret O'Carroll

Irish soprano MARGARET O' CARROLL is among the pre-eminent voices in Irish music today. She is a classically trained singer whose focus is on the performance and recording of Irish song.

Margaret O'Carroll's debut CD "SONGS MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME, a Collection of Irish Songs", was submitted by Kerry Records to the 45th Annual Grammy Awards Committee for consideration in five categories including Best Traditional Folk Album and Best World Album. The entire enchanting collection captures the great Irish tradition of storytelling through song and offers the listener the sadness of unrequited love, the despair and hope of emigration the whimsy of fairyland and the joy of being Irish. The listener is drawn in with the first note of the ethereal "She Moved Through the Fair", and with such beloved songs as 'Down By the Sally Gardens', 'Shannon River', and 'Shule Agra', from beginning to end, this CD treasure is a delight. Her second CD, Silent Night, Oiche Chiuin, has just been recorded on the Kerry Records label for release in 2004.
