ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
West Virginia traditional music fires us up! This is real and genuine music from the hills of West Virginia. It’s local music, and we have a blood connection to it. The tunes come from the heart. Many of the older generation of West Virginia fiddlers are world-renowned for their music. Fiddlers such as Wilson Douglas, Franklin George, Lee Triplett, and Melvin Wine are no longer with us, but their style of fiddling is alive and well in the hands of the Modock Rounders. Jesse Pearson and Cody Jordan discovered old-time music while still in high school, and they were amazed at how the old-time mountain fiddlers were known around the world for the music of the West Virginia hills.

“Those old fiddlers are like mythological figures to me and Jesse, says Cody. "They died long before we got into old time music. We never got a chance to play with them, but Kim sure did, and she’s our lconnection to that heritage. We met Kim at an Appalachian studies conference, and invited her to some gigs, and before long it was just understood she was a member of the band. It came together pretty naturally."

Kim Johnson has performed for 20 years with West Virginia fiddling legend Wilson Douglas, recording three albums with him before he died in 1999. She spent the next 15 years playing with 93-year-old Calhoun County fiddler Lester McCumbers, and has earned a reputation as one of the state’s premiere old-time musicians. Lester McCumbers passed away in January 2015. "I'm turning over a new leaf. It's so much fun playing music with Jesse and Cody, says Kim. "They're young, energetic, and excited about getting out there and playing."

Be sure to come & see the Modock Rounders whenever they're playing in your area. You'll be glad you did!
