Album Notes
The Show

“Modrock” is a stage musical set in the vibrant, swinging London of 1965, a time when styles and cultures clashed, the British bands ruled the pop charts and all fashion trends emerged on Carnaby Street. It tells the story of star-crossed lovers from rival “Mod” and “Rocker” factions who are forced to choose between loyalties and their new found love. Each song on the album is connected directly to the period as well as the story and informs the audience, shapes the characters and propels the action in a unique way. We meet the ‘face’ obsessed Mods and the tradition bound Rockers. Then unrequited and secret loves are exposed in a powerful Night Club confrontation. We experience painful remembrances, a dramatic showdown, and finally, an inspirational resolution when love conquers all.

The Music

In Great Britain the period between 1963 and 1966 was one of the most extraordinary moments of youth cultural history ,and in particular, music history. For the first time British rock and pop artists crossed over the ‘pond’ and exploded onto the US Record Charts and airwaves. The height of “The British Invasion”, as it came to be known, was The Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964. “ModRock” is an homage to this period and to the many iconic bands and songwriters who emerged from it, in addition to The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, such as the Kinks, the Animals, Dusty Springfield, the Yardbirds, the Hollies, Chad and Jeremy, The Who, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Zombies and Herman Hermits to name just a few.

ModRocks you right into the past.
Though "ModRock - The Stage Musical" has yet to open, the musical performances on this soundtrack transport you, not only to that vibrant time of too often forgotten tunes, but also to a front row seat at the theater. The arrangements and vocals on this stellar collection really do evoke what is sure to be a fun stage performance. Since each individual song in this collection is, in itself, sort of a mini opera, their combined force cannot help but bring stirring visual memories to those who were there for the originals as well as those who have just now wandered down Carnaby Street for the first time.
