ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
We had incredible fun in the studio and it shows in the music. All songs played live with the musicians feeding off each other. Full Fino (latin funk) is dedicated to Lester Young - Jerry's solo on the bass is one of my favorites, and the percussion by Omar shines throughout but especially at the very end in the virual 6/8 ending. Santa Guaracha was interpreted to perfection by Rocio (one take) and she definitely sets the tone for the rest of the solos with her scat. Look at me is dedicated to a wonderful child (Silvia) and it was composed while she was riding a merry go round. The drumming by Carlos is incredible... Everything happens to me is just a beautiful ballad and we payed it homage by just playing it straight. Llorale al rio is "cry me a river" as a bolero with original lyrics. Again Rocio sings it to perfection. My only comment to her was "que suene a telenovela". La Salsa del Mono is a fun number. The very begining is a nod to Ruben Blades and Willie Colon. Greg's (comping) and solos are simply insane throughout the recording. Yet, the one here captivates me the most. OIly stuff is my requisite straight-ahead number This album is testimony to my growth as both a composer and as an instrumentalist. Enjoy!!

Grabs you from the beginning and just doesn't let go
Well if you don't start moving right with at the intro of the first song, "Full Fino", then there's something wrong with you. It's just a phenomenal groove with awesome musicians and solos and overall "umph". The CD is a well balanced mix of straight Jazz and Latin Jazz, with very distinct flavors for every song. The guest vocalist is just phenomenal (too bad I don't speak Spanish, but she sounds good!!) and the band does a great job of backing the tasty sax lines of Moises. I can't wait to hear what he will come out with next!
