ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In its 10th year on the air, this is the first release that
represents the syndicated radio show The Romantic Hours, heard on many commercial and non-commercial stations across the country. This blending of classical music with romantic anecdotes and poetry is hosted by Steinway Artist Mona Golabek.

She has appeared at the Hollywood Bowl, the Kennedy Center, the Royal Festival Hall, and with major orchestras and conductors around the world. The Grammy-nominated pianist has also been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Avery Fisher Prize and the People’s Award of the International Chopin Competition. She has been the subject of numerous PBS television documentaries, including More Than the Music and Concerto for Mona, featuring Ms. Golabek and conductor Zubin Mehta. Her recordings include the best-selling Carnival of the Animals; Poulenc’s Babar the Elephant; Arensky/Tchaikovsky Piano Trios, and Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos. Her first book, The Children of Willesden Lane - - a tribute to her late mother, pianist and teacher, Lisa Jura, was published by Warner Books.

Producer Doug Ordunio was for 13 years the FM Programmer and an on-air personality with the former classical radio station KFAC in Los Angeles. For 17 years, he was the producer and host for countless classical music programs heard aboard commercial airlines around the world, including United, American, Continental, Northwest, Delta, Finnair, Asiana, Korean Air, and many others. He was also the producer and host of the weekly classical music program heard internationally on Armed Forces Radio for 13 years.

This recording features 20 chamber, orchestral and solo performances by Mona Golabek. Tracks 7 and 20 also feature poetry written by Doug Ordunio.
