ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"MonaLisa Twins play Beatles & more" is a cover compilation of world-known songs from the 60s aera - most of them from the Beatles, since they are Mona's and Lisa's greatest musical influence and role models. But there are many other impressive 60s artists they like to cover, in the case of this CD these are The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, The Easybeats, Buffalo Springfield & Janis Joplin.

For their YouTube videos as well as their live performances the 19 year old twins meanwhile have treasured up a decent amount of cover songs they perform regularly. Some of them got recorded as studio versions where Mona and Lisa were able to play more than one guitar each, where Mona also plays the drums and percussion, where they can sing 3rd or 4th voices and even choirs and where their Dad usually plays the bass.
For their live shows, however, with their band musicians they play in the classical 60s band setting with 2 guitars, drums and bass and 2 - 3 voices, sometimes joined by the Ukulele and the blues harp.

Depending on the type of recording you'll notice differences in their arrangements, they even throw in acoustic duo recordings from time to time, like their take on Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth" (track #7). The most charming thing about these two girls are their female twin harmonies and the personal touch they add to all of their arrangements. Fans usually love Mona & Lisa for not butchering the feeling of the original song and for not being copy-cats trying to exactly imitate voices or sounds. Sometimes they even do a completely different arrangement just to have fun and surprise their audiences with an encore like track #15 "Mercedes Benz" and still do the songs justice.

Many tracks of the CD have been on the MonaLisa Twins YouTube channel for years, their music videos having gathered millions of views and thousands of subscribers. People from around the world discover the MonaLisa Twins by looking for covers of their favorite songs and then keep following the Twins' musical career. Many of them asked if they could buy the music somewhere, because they wanted to use them for their own weddings, funerals, teaching lessons, theatre choreographies, ... So the girls finally decided to produce this cover compilation for their fans before they start writing and recording new originals.

The MonaLisa Twins are always striving for excellent sound recordings, even at live performances. Sometimes there are discussions arising on YouTube if their live videos really contained the original live recording, and usually those fans who attended that particular live show, would then confirm that it was indeed the actual live sound. This is because whenever possible they do multi-channel recordings to use them for their videos or a CD likewise. For more information on the songs, the track credits and lyrics please see the single tracks' descriptions.

„The likes of Bob Dylan or Sir Paul McCartney wouldn’t turn down performing one of these songs down“
Music News

„These girls have some great things ahead of them if this is what they are capable of at 19. The Next Big Thing? The Mona Lisa Twins“
Soletron

„I was pretty shocked after hearing the guitar playing on their album „When We‘re Together“ that these two cute Austrian girls are only 19. The guitar work is more intricate than what was on the radio during the sixties. Their strength is their songwriting, their voices are never over emote and stay honest in their inflections.“
Hiplanta Music Blog

„The MonaLisa Twins are bringing back the POP in pop. They present pop the way it used to be: sweet, harmonic, with easy breezy lyrics that are impossibly catchy. The two have managed to capture the essence of what art is and what it means to people.“
Celebrity VIP Lounge

„Big things could be on the horizon for the MonaLisa Twins, because at 19, they are already accomplished musicians and have a firm direction for their music. Harmonies seem to come natural to them and if they continue to write slick, catchy pop songs that you can tap your feet to, then there’s no reason why they can’t keep the sound of the 60s alive for a good time to come.“
